An Unfulfilling Culinary Journey: A Detailed Review of Swati Restaurant's Unlimited Lunch Menu
My recent visit to Swati restaurant left me deeply disappointed and compelled me to share a detailed review of their so-called "unlimited" lunch menu. As a food enthusiast, I have frequented various restaurants to savor the rich flavors of Indian cuisine, and I had high expectations for Swati based on its reputation. However, my experience was far from satisfactory, and I feel the need to highlight the shortcomings for the benefit of others.
Ambiance: Upon entering Swati restaurant, I was greeted by a pleasant and welcoming ambiance. The restaurant's interior featured traditional decor, creating an inviting atmosphere. The staff seemed polite and attentive, adding to the initial positive impression.
Unlimited Lunch Menu Selection: Eager to sample a diverse range of Gujarati delicacies, I opted for the unlimited lunch menu, which came at a steep price of 600 rupees. Unfortunately, the promise of "unlimited" dishes fell short of reality.
Starters: The disappointment began with the starters, as they were fixed and limited in quantity. The chaat puri dish offered consisted of merely 4-5 pieces, barely enough to whet one's appetite. This limited portion contradicted the essence of an unlimited menu, which should have provided a generous assortment of starters to tease the taste buds.
Main Course: Moving on to the main course, the menu lacked the variety I expected from an unlimited lunch offering. While the chapatis and sabjis were indeed unlimited, there were only two options for sabjis, leaving much to be desired. A diverse selection of traditional Gujarati dishes was notably absent, and the lack of choices made the experience monotonous.
The limited choice of bread, either paratha or thepla, was equally underwhelming. A comprehensive selection should have been available to cater to different preferences and dietary requirements.
Accompaniments: A true Gujarati meal experience is incomplete without the accompaniments, such as sweet dishes and drinks. Unfortunately, Swati restaurant's approach to this aspect was disappointing. The dessert offered was a single piece of sukri, which felt like a mere afterthought rather than a satisfying conclusion to the meal. Additionally, the buttermilk portion was restricted to one glass, hardly justifying the term "unlimited" in any way.
Value for Money: The pricing of the unlimited lunch menu, 600 rupees, was disproportionately high compared to the limited and lackluster selection of dishes provided. With such a limited spread, the cost felt unjustifiable, and it left me feeling as though I had been taken advantage of as a customer.
Comparison to Competing Restaurants: Having dined at other Gujarati restaurants like Gordhan thal, Atithi, and Thakur thal, I cannot help but draw comparisons. These establishments offer authentic, unlimited lunch experiences with a wide array of dishes that celebrate the rich tapestry of Gujarati cuisine. Swati restaurant's limited and fixed menu pales in comparison to the abundance of choices available at its competitors.
In conclusion, my visit to Swati restaurant and experience with their unlimited lunch menu was immensely disappointing. The lack of variety, limited portions, and steep prices left me feeling unsatisfied and deceived. I strongly advise potential diners to think twice before choosing this particular menu option and to explore other Gujarati restaurants that genuinely deliver on their promise of an unlimited and fulfilling dining experience. Let your culinary journey be one of delight and satisfaction, which Swati restaurant's unlimited lunch menu, unfortunately,...

Read moreMight be an #unpopularopinion but it is an honest one - Swati Snacks did not wow me with it’s taste. Ordered the following:
Panki: Steamed in banana leaves, this is arguably the most ordered dish at Swati. Every table had at least one portion of Panki at the table. Taste was good, but the aroma of banana leaves seeped in the Panki while cooking was missing big time. We make Pankis at home and I love the homemade version better.
Rava Masala Dosa: We had a non experimental person in the group that ordered Rava Masala Dosa and I think it turned out to be the best for him. Taste was good. Crispy, flavourful and nice.
Paneer Lifafa: Mint chutney with spiced chopped onions and Paneer in a Maida roti cut into small rectangular pieces was just enough to order once. Not more!
Dhansak Bhaat: This Parsi dish is my all time favourite and I went to Swati for this more than it’s Panki. Safe to say it was the best of the lot we ordered but I’ve had better Dhansak. I was reminded of the gorgeous presentation from Sodabottleopenerwala that serves Dhansak in a tin tiffin. Small things like these when done right can stay on a customer’s mind for a long time.
Bedai Roti, Shaak and Shikhand Thali: Bedai Roti with Kesar Shikhand can be a meal in itself without the Sukhi Bhaji it came with. Salty, spicy roti and sweet Shikhand is a very good combo.
The first thought I had after my meal was this is the kind of restaurant that can have polarising views. The clientele of Swati falls under a niche who are out and out loyalist. Will I go there again? I doubt because the food did not speak to me as loudly as the reviews spoke. I’ll probably go there if have to take a particular type of guests like NRIs who want to eat desi food but in a restaurant setup. Those Handvas, Muthias and Khichus will please them hopefully. #TadDisappointing...
