Cafe 1947 offers a mixed dining experience, and we would rate it with 3 out of 5 stars. The cafe provides a range of food and drink options, with a few notable highlights. One notable aspect of Cafe 1947 is that people can smoke Hukka here. This might be appealing to some customers but could be off-putting for non-smokers or those sensitive to smoke. The cafe's outdoor sitting area is located downstairs, which provides a pleasant ambiance. It also offers indoor seating, which can be advantageous in case of rain or inclement weather. Nighttime visitors can enjoy live band performances at Cafe 1947, adding to the overall experience and entertainment value. The cafe caters to a variety of tastes, offering a wide selection of hard drinks. During our visit, we tried the virgin Pina colada and Hazelnut latte, both of which exceeded our expectations and were enjoyable. While the quality of the food was satisfying, we found the quantity to be lesser than expected, especially considering the prices charged. The food didn't leave us completely satisfied or with a deeply fulfilling experience. One aspect that stood out negatively was the charging of additional fees for toppings, particularly for Pasta. Charging Rs. 50-70 per topping seemed excessive and left us questioning the value proposition. Overall a bit of mixed review. But the availability of Hukka, a pleasant outdoor seating area, live band performances, and good beverage options add to its appeal. However, the relatively high prices, limited food quantity, and additional charges for toppings wasn't expected. But if you're looking for a place with a mixed dining experience, Cafe 1947 could be worth considering, but it's important to manage your expectations...

Unreasonable Table Charges: We were surprised and disappointed to find that there were unnecessary charges for tables near the balcony with a view of the river. This felt like a blatant attempt to capitalize on the scenic location, rather than offering fair pricing to all patrons. The tables mentioned minimum billing values of Rs.4000/- and Rs. 8000/- What is it???

Initial Service Lacking: Upon arrival, we were disappointed that the staff did not offer water. This oversight set a disappointing tone for the rest of the experience.

Subpar Food Quality: The food quality did not meet our expectations. Flavors that were bland and uninspired. We ordered a few dishes that were not tasty and lacked freshness.

Overrated and Overhyped: Despite its reputation, we found the cafe to be overrated and overhyped. The ambiance and setting were pleasant, but they did not compensate for the shortcomings in service and food quality.

Rushed Atmosphere: The cafe appeared to be more focused on turnover than providing a comfortable dining experience. There was a palpable sense of urgency to get customers in and out as quickly as possible, which detracted from the overall ambiance.

Restrictive Washroom Policy: Despite government regulations, the cafe only allowed access to the washrooms for paying customers. This policy felt unnecessarily restrictive and showed a lack of consideration for basic customer needs.

Overall, our experience at the Cafe 1947 fell far short of our expectations. From the lack of initial service to the subpar food quality and unwelcoming atmosphere, it was clear that this establishment does not live up to its reputation. We would not recommend it to others and are unlikely to return...

What a bummer of a place 👎 If this happens to be your first cafe in Manali, you might give it a higher rating. However if you've been in the mountainous town for a while and have visited a few other delectable eating places, Cafe 1947 will NOT qualify even in the top 10. Let me elaborate the reasons based on my experience - OVERRATED Cafe 1947 is extremely overrated in terms of its food specialities, service and hospitality. OVERPRICED Good food justifies higher pricing. Average food doesn't. Cafe 1947 is yet to master even basic culinary options like Caesar Salad. NO UMBRELLAS OUTDOORS The most beautiful setting of Cafe 1947 lies outdoors, facing the snow clad mountains and the gushing Beas river. However it is the most uncomfortable because there is no protection against the scorching sun on a warm day or against the rain on a chilly one. JOKE OF A PARKING Right at the entrance lies the parking that accomodates a maximum of three cars. Out of these, one belongs to the in house staff. So that leaves two spots. Rest of the guests are forced to park on the highway outside. LIMITED FOOD VARIETY & UNAVAILABILITY Compared to the most popular and engaging cafes in Manali (like Lazy Dog, Urban Monk etc.) Cafe 1947 has limited availability of food and their variety is quite basic. NOTE: Don't remember the last time I've been this hard on an eating place. I guess, Cafe 1947 just didn't sync in well! All thanks to its lagging behind almost every other Cafe in and around Manali. The 2 stars on it's rating from me are ONLY for its location and view of the pristine Himalayan landscape.

(4.5/5) Café 1947 in Manali is one of those places that lives up to its reputation. We visited for the first time after hearing a lot about it on Instagram, as it’s a popular spot with the local crowd. Our visit was during an afternoon, so there was surprisingly low rush, but I’ve heard that it’s usually busy. For drinks, we tried the Oreo Frappe (₹130) and the Virgin Mojito (₹110). Both were refreshing and well-made, the frappe being creamy and indulgent, while the mojito was tangy and perfectly balanced. In terms of food, we sampled the Cheese Bruschetta (₹100), Alfredo Pasta (₹250), and a classic Omelette (₹190). The Bruschetta was delicious with fresh toppings and crisp bread. The Alfredo Pasta had a creamy texture and rich flavor, although it could’ve been a bit more flavorful. The Omelette was simple yet satisfying, a good option for a light bite. The ambience was cozy, with a charming, rustic vibe. It’s the kind of place where you can relax, enjoy good food, and take in the surrounding views. The staff was friendly and the service was quick. While there’s often a wait, we were lucky to visit during a quieter time. Overall, Café 1947 offers a solid dining experience with great food and a relaxed atmosphere. It's definitely worth a visit if you're in Manali. I’ll happily return for more!
