I recently had the displeasure of dining at Sher-e-Punjab, and I must say, it was a less than satisfying experience. From start to finish, the restaurant failed to meet even the most basic expectations.
First and foremost, the saag, a classic Punjabi dish, was served to me cold. It was unappetizing and lacked any semblance of flavor. It was clear that the dish had been sitting out for far too long, and the lack of attention to detail was truly disappointing.
To add insult to injury, the lassi, a traditional Indian yogurt-based drink, was not only warm but almost room temperature. It left a sour taste in my mouth, both literally and figuratively. How could a restaurant that prides itself on authentic Punjabi cuisine serve such a poorly prepared beverage?
Even the cold drink I ordered was warm! It seemed unbelievable that they couldn't even manage to get the temperature right on a basic canned drink. This lack of attention to detail was evident throughout my entire dining experience.
While I appreciate the owner's hard work in the kitchen, it's clear that their efforts are misplaced. Perhaps they should focus on improving the operations and basic amenities rather than working tirelessly in the kitchen. The lack of cleanliness and organization was apparent, leaving a less-than-pleasant atmosphere for diners.
Moreover, the overall quality of the food was severely lacking. The dishes lacked any depth of flavor and were prepared with subpar ingredients. It was evident that corners were cut in terms of sourcing and preparation, which ultimately impacted the taste.
In conclusion, Sher-e-Punjab is a restaurant in desperate need of improvement. From cold saag to warm lassi and even a lukewarm cold drink, nothing about this dining experience was enjoyable. It is evident that the restaurant's operations, basic amenities, and food quality all require significant enhancement. Save your time, money, and taste buds, and choose another place to satisfy your cravings for authentic...
Read moreI'd just finished a 5 km trek from Manali to Jogini Falls via Vashisht and felt ready to have a late lunch. The Sher-e-Punjab on the Highway looked inviting and on entering I was delighted it had alfresco dining with great riverside and mountain views. In fact the first thing I observed guests do, is take pictures and selfies from the terrace overlooking the Beas below. I was pretty excited with the magical views and was rather camera happy, taking pictures from various levels. The restaurant staff seemed used to the excitement and didn't mind. When I finally settled down with the menu, a work of art in itself, I liked the typical Punjabi fare of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes and Indian desserts. However, I was pleasantly surprised to see salad options and ordered a chicken salad and a sweet lassi. The lassi arrived in an earthen tumbler and was thick like Punjabi lassis are meant to be. It was a meal in itself. The chicken salad looked very attractive with substantial braised chicken pieces on a bed of lettuce, capsicum and tomatoes. The dressing was a sweet mayonnaise-olive oil concoction. To spice it up I asked for soya sauce. The vegetables were fresh and crunchy. An absolute delight, despite the sweetness of the salad dressing. The chicken, however, though attractive to look at, was fibrous and a bit tough to chew. I finished it anyway. I took some more pictures and videos of the mountains in the fading light from the outdoor terrace. The Sher-e-Punjab is a sensory overload, with an indoor seating area - which no one patronises during the day - and an outdoor dining area at three levels. Each level provides a different ambience and slightly different views of the river, the snow-covered mountains and the forested mountains on the opposite bank with beautiful villages in the distance. The food is delicious and very reliable, but difficult to focus on, with the vast beauty of Nature itself laid...
