Read moreI recently visited United Telugu Kitchen in Chanda Nagar with high expectations, but unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. I'm sharing a breakdown of our experience cause I don't want anyone to have such a huge disappointment.
Starters:
Chicken Starter (Tangdi kebab Chicken): ₹1000 for just 5 pieces, which is exorbitant considering the quantity. The taste was average, but the price was the real issue. Fish Fry: ₹1000 for a full plate, but the fish was hardly noticeable under a thick coating. The taste was average, and the quantity was disappointing. Butter Naan: ₹90 per piece, which is steep compared to nearby restaurants where similar naan is available for ₹40-60.
Main Course:
Butter Chicken: ₹550 per dish, but the quantity was barely 100-150 grams. The taste was below average, lacking buttery aroma and soft texture. Boneless Chicken Biryani: ₹550-650 per dish, but the quantity was laughable. A single serving was not even sufficient for one person, let alone a biryani lover. The taste was also below average.
Beverages:
Fruit Juice: Charged ₹150 per glass, but it was just a tetra-packed real juice poured into a glass with a piece of pineapple on top. No freshness or quality to speak of.
Our Experience:
We ordered a total of: 1 full plate of Grilled Chicken 1 full plate of Fish Fry 6 pieces of Butter Naan 2 dishes of Butter Chicken 2 dishes of Boneless Chicken Biryani Fruit Juice for everyone
The total bill came out to be around ₹5200. Here's the kicker - the total quantity of food we received was hardly 1 KG, which is unacceptable considering the price. We left with half-filled stomachs, feeling disappointed and ripped off.
Insider's Perspective:
As a cook myself, I'm aware of the prices and quality of ingredients. The dishes we ordered were made with regular ingredients, not premium or organic. In fact, good basmati rice can be sourced for ₹150-160 per kg. Given the quality and quantity, I estimate that a similar meal at a good restaurant nearby would cost around ₹2000-2500, not ₹5200.

I'm sharing this experience to highlight the importance of understanding customer expectations. We visited United Telugu Kitchen with the hope of enjoying good food, quality, and quantity, but were sorely disappointed. Service Experience:
We had booked a table in advance, and as a part of that, we received complimentary mocktails.
Considering the restaurant is named United “Telugu” Kitchen, it was surprising that most of the servers did not understand Telugu. While their service was decent, the main issue was that they weren’t listening to orders properly. • We clearly placed our starters order, and they noted it down, but after 10 minutes, they returned to clarify the dishes again. • We ordered one plate of prawns kebab, but they mistakenly brought two due to miscommunication. • They repeatedly came to confirm whether we ordered Natukodi Roast, even after noting it down. Despite being ordered alongside the main course, it was served after the entire main course was completed. • While the servers were humble, their lack of attentiveness and frequent reconfirmations affected the experience.
Pricing & Overall Value:
The total bill, including all taxes, came to around ₹3,300+. Each dish was priced between ₹450 to ₹550. The main issue was that for these prices, the food should have been served in adequate quantity, but even though some dishes tasted good, the portion sizes did not justify the cost.
Since we had booked our table via Zomato, we got discounts and removed service charges, bringing the final amount we paid to around ₹2,400+. At this price, I felt the experience was fine. However, for others who pay the full price without discounts, the experience might not feel worth it, given the quantity issues and service inconsistencies.
