First the Menu, it lists so many dishes to overwhelm the diner with tons of choices, however when you start asking then you realise that it was probably Mr. Kapoor's Mann Ki Baat which has been printed as the menu.
Anyway we were hungry so went ahead and ordered Chaas, it is Chaach or Namkeen Lassi and also Lassi which is Sweet Lassi for drinks. The Chaach had too much salt and was mostly water. It sure is not as thick as the Meethi Lassi but sadly these guys made it more like Salty Water with a dash of Coriander, yes, not Mint leaves but coriander. And they served it in Mitti ke Glasses which were chipping away. So we tasted Punjab ki Mitti with our Lassi, I hope it was.
Now the food part, the Makki ka Paratha was more like fried Makki ki Roti. It was palatable but not succulent as it should generally be made by adding various ingredients like shavings of raddish, coriander leaves, mashed garlic and green chillies.
Then Sarson ka Saag tasted too dry probably heating it again and again made it lose water, though they added red looking greasy ghee or oil with lots of burnt crushed garlic and whole red chilly. And then also added frozen white butter to it, which would not melt even when crushed with a spoon.
Yes, the white butter, well it looked more like unsalted cooking butter, not the dollops of smooth textured white butter which you get in Karnal or Murthal Dhabas. Or which you can easily get at home if you beat Amul Cream in a mixer grinder, it tastes much better than this unsalted cooking butter of Kapoor's Cafe.
The boondi raita was okay, the kind you make it everyday at home too, nothing special.
Well, that was the food part. Here I should also tell you that the building is still under construction and the parking had dumps of cement, sand and concrete mixture strewn around. The lift took quite some time and while waiting we must have ingested lot of fine cement dust.
And the seating, well we first tried sitting on the Charpoys but with our fitting clothing it was not possible to sit on the charpoys and eat. So if you plan to sit on the charpoys then wear Pyjama Kurta or really loose clothing. Thankfully there was hardly any rush, so we sat on the table chair/bench combination. Also the Charpoys and Tables are placed so close to each other that you probably will be talking to your next table or charpoy guy than your family member sitting opposite you.
The service, well the waiters must have been trained in some Dhaba only, as he brought a dripping wet cloth to clean our table, thank god, there was no color in the cloth else we sure would be having a modern art.
Anyway we finished our meal and then asked for the bill.
Well, they don't serve you the bill on your table, but you go to the reception and pay it personally. Some of the desi Dhabas, the waiter is too happy to present the bill to you and even swipes your card right in front of you on a portable machine but not here. Thank god, there was no rush, so we could pay it fast. We thanked our stars that we came on a Friday lunch when it was not crowded, I can only imagine the frustration if for paying your bill, you need to stand in a queue.
The verdict, overall for simple vegetarian food of Sarson da Saag, makki di roti/paratha, raita, lassi and chaas we paid a whopping 1500/-. It sure is hugley pricey for such a crowded ambience, shoddy service and very average or below...
Read moreIt is located in 2nd floor of sbr horizon mall. We went for weekend lunch at around 12.30 pm. Quite empty at that point of time. Which gave us the liberty to choose our desired table. We were two adults and a kid. Since they didn't have child seats for the table seating We settled dhaba style cot seating. Which was pretty comfortable. Ambience was neat and nice, no complaints. We ordered a Aloo pyaaz paratha no spice for the kid. We already knew about their portion sizes so we cautiously ordered one cheese corn rolls and one Aloo mutter paneer thali. Aloo paratha was perfect for the kid but the portion size was huge. Half the portion is sufficient for kids. They should have given options for kids paratha which is smaller in size than the normal one. So be prepared to share the meal. The mutter paneer thali came with two lacha roti, Mutter paneer, jeera rice, dhal tadka, cucumber raita, paapad, bhindi pakora, sweet boondi, Aloo fry. We two adults shared the thali and the left over paratha of our kid. The thali meal was wuite filling and tasted good. Rotis were soft and the subzi tasted good and had good paneer pieces and the quantity is good which can be eaten with extra roti if you need. Which we felt quite full and we didn't have space for desserts. So we ordered take away of one rabri with gulab jaamun for desserts. Which tasted really good. Overall a satisfying lunch. If you are looking for north Indian veg place near kadugodi I would happily recommend this place. There is paan shop inside the restaurant as well. We had sweet pan and it...
Read moreThis place is quite well known for its Punjabi food and ambience. Previously, I have heard a lot about this place and finally got a chance to visit this place and tried some of their authentic Punjabi food and drinks. Visiting this place was a good decision that made. Because I wasn't expecting this place to be this good. Everything here was absolutely amazing with a positive vibe coming out from the very corner.
So, let me start by talking about the ambience first which was the main attraction from this place. They have tried to a Punjabi Dhaba feel by putting some "khatia" or "charpai" at the sitting area where people can easily enjoy and have their food. Lighting was properly done and also walling painting was awesome describing that typical Punjabi culture.
Now, let's talk about food from this place. I must say they have a proper Punjabi menu that can give a Punjab feel in it. Starting my evening by ordering a glass of lassi which was amazingly delicious full of nuts and kanju. Then I try their starters and main course which i ll be listing down below. So, my top recommendation from this place would be:
Starters: Lassi Chesse ball Soya bean pakoda
