Absolutely love this place—have been here several times and it’s never disappointed.
We used to be regulars at their Kochi outlet, and this one lives up to the same standard. It’s one of those rare spots where you get authentic Mandi and Arabic-style grills, and can confidently bring others along knowing the food will deliver—every single time.
It’s also one of the only places that’s managed to impress some retired Gulf NRIs in our family—my dad, father-in-law, family friends from back in the day—all big fans. Including us, of course.
Everything is just on point—the flavours, the portion sizes, the quality of meat, and the service. You leave happy every time. Even at this price point, you don’t mind paying because they deliver both in food and experience. And the staff? Genuinely some of the nicest people we’ve interacted with—whoever’s hiring and training them is doing an excellent job.
Our most recent visit was for iftar. We tried the iftar kit that came with fruits, a samosa, a variation of kheer, and a watermelon milk drink that was surprisingly refreshing. Plus, their usual complimentary soup and salad.
The Mandi and other rice dishes are simply amazing—the meat is cooked so well it’s literally fall-off-the-bone good. A quick heads-up though: this is authentic Mandi, which means the flavours are milder and more balanced—not the spiced-up or mayo-loaded versions some places serve (as they shouldn’t!). So go in with that expectation—it’s all about subtlety and the quality of the meat shining through.
We almost always go for the mixed grill platter—it’s easily enough for four, if not more (depending on your appetite). The rotis are fantastic too—soft, fresh, and perfect with the grills.
Shoutout to our server Azhar, who took great care of us during iftar. The place was packed, as expected, but thankfully we had a reservation. Only bummer was that they’d stopped serving the mutton seekh (koobideh), which we missed. Their mutton mandi is just so good—it deserves all the hype.
Highly recommend. Great food, great service, and that rare consistency that makes you keep...
Read moreYemaneese food in Kozhikode?? I was intrigued. So I walked in without a lot of expectations. In short, I came out a changed man. The ambience is modern and slick with plenty of seating space. There are cubicles with thick mattresses to sit on, for that genuine Arabic feel. The restaurant was clean and maintained well. The service staff were well educated about the menu, polite and attentive. Shami, my waiter was excellent. He suggested I try the Mudfoon after enquiring about my taste preferences. The mutton Mudfoon was delicious. The meat was extremely tender and delicately spiced. The accompanying Mandi rice is flavourful and appetizing. The standard accompaniments include a salad, a tomato based chutney and a lentil soup. I also requested for a small portion of yoghurt. The portions are large and I would suggest that a 'quarter' portion would suffice for two light eaters. The pricing ( look at the photos of the menu I uploaded ) is reasonable. The restaurants location near Erangipalam junction on Wayanad road makes it easy to get to as well. The only aspect that may not be straight forward is the parking. As with most places around, I could not find dedicated car parking. But that is only too common, and I guess you could call the restaurant to find out more before you arrive. I am told it gets busy during peak times and reserving a table is recommended. Overall, an excellent option for a special meal. My 4 star rating is based on my experience with similar food during my travels in the middle East. I would give it 4.5 if I could. I strongly recommend you try this joint if you are a fan of Arabic cuisine or if you want an introduction to authentic Arabic cuisine....
Read moreMehrab Mandi is a Yemeni restaurant in Calicut, Kerala, India. It is located in the heart of the city, and is a popular spot for both locals and tourists. The restaurant is known for its authentic Yemeni cuisine, which is made with fresh, high-quality ingredients. The service is excellent, and the staff is always happy to help you choose the perfect dish.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Mehrab Mandi, and I was very impressed. I ordered the Chicken Mandi, Mandi Lamb Haneeth Ribs and Haneeth Shoulder, which is a traditional Yemeni dish of rice and lamb that is slow cooked in a tandoori oven. The lamb was tender and flavorful, and the rice was perfectly cooked. The dish was also served with a variety of delicious condiments, including yogurt, chutney, and salad.
A negative thing ai encountered was the service. We ordered the Kunafa and the said wait time was 10 mins. It was given after 30 mins. Even though there wasn't any rush during that time, such a delay is not acceptable.
Overall, I had a very positive experience at Mehrab Mandi. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the prices were very reasonable. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an authentic Yemeni...
