Read moreYesterday on 1st March we visited the Restaurant, Haji Saheb at Park Circus. It came highly recommended or maybe not, as the indication of recommendation came mostly as photos posted by a close friend that had visited the same place days before us. It was a day of personal celebration and we chose Haji Saheb for dinner thereby bringing curtains on the celebrations of the day. What would have been an apt and happy closure, began exactly as it was thought of. The parking attendant was very helpful and as the Guard posted at the restaurant gate opened the same and welcomed us in with a smile (we were not frisked as one is usually subjected to these days in the name of security). After the initial confusion of us being accommodated we were finally allowed to the first floor. The menu was very impressive and in tune with the same we ordered a ‘Mutton Biryani’ mentioned differently in the menu which was described to contain chunks of meat. Upon my partners inquiry we were told that it will be only one piece of mutton. The food didn’t take long and when the biryani was served it was cold, the chunks of meat as described in the menu (or one piece of mutton) as told to us by the steward was just a chunk of bone with some mutton still managing to cling onto it. It was hanging from the bone as sometimes passengers hang from the gates of an overcrowded bus. Upon us mentioning the same we were told that it will be taken care of when we visited the eatery ‘next time’. However, they were good enough to take the rumali-roti’s and warm them. The same in the course of time turned as papads, dry and stiff. The other dish ordered was Khada-Masala-Gosht. This time we found this dish very true to its name as in the (Gravy) masala the ginger was ‘khada’ as chunks. Totally unfitting with the dish and making you chew them. Not pleasant I must tell you as it left the after effect n your mouth tasting same as AAP victory to Amit Shah. On our exit we managed to get the attention of the manager, who told us – again – everything will be taken care of when you visit us the next time, I told him I cannot. I do not have the courage to go through a similar experience again. If you are a courageous lot, try your luck at Haji Saheb – Park Circus. For I will try mine at a lottery...
Read moreHaji Saheb needs no introduction specially to the people of Behala but for North Kolkata people we're completely left out to taste their delicacies. Neither they deliver such a long distance nor they've any branches in North Kolkata.
Whenever I passed through Behala the crowd in front of their restaurant and roll counter always fascinated me. So, when I finally got time, I checked this place from my wish list.
Their Tikiya and Rolls are most popular and one of its kind but unfortunately, they don't serve Tikiya for Dine in. So, we settled for their other popular dishes and its obviously Chap and Biryani but I'm sure they rock all the north Indian dishes. Their prices are affordable too.
Laccha Paratha @ Rs.20 (4/5) Mutton Chap @ Rs.230 (4.5/5) Excellent, fabulous, brilliant all these words will be very less to describe it. Mutton piece was so soft that was just melting in the mouth. Served in a large bowl the quantity was more than enough. The gravy was extremely rich and flavorful but very oily. Overall, the taste was unique and I've never tried such rich chap anywhere else in Kolkata.
This is a must try combo but remember try once in a while. Due to its richness and use of so much dalda, oil and ghee your heart will not like it as much as your tastebuds.
Mutton Biryani Special @ Rs.380 (4/5) Don't confuse this branch of Haji Saheb with the one at Park Circus. It tastes different than their Biryani. Once again, they surprised me with the quantity, good soft well-cooked mutton and the richness like other dishes. Extraordinary soft potato and the flavorful rice. Overall, very good.
Believe me this place doesn't need a review. If you love rich north Indian food and never been to Haji, then please visit them once. You...
