Kumar mess the very name has become a synonymous for good food. Food is available for lunch & dinner. But I want to add one more point that it's the hotel of the rich!!! Over the years the cost of food has become so exorbitant (of course material cost has increased but the cost has gone way too much) and the food taste is deteriorating ex. the gravy they give it you buy biriyani is so watery n makes me think if it's the water used to clean the vessels & if you ask them any other gravy the reply will be simple "it's mutton gravy sir" and to prove the point there will be some bones common man I'm not a 🐶. They charge a whooping amount of Rs. 200 for mutton biriyani but you won't be given extra rice for free. 🙁 The mutton kola is a delicacy but sadly the size has become so small that even the the one rupee coin looks bigger but it's bloody expensive. But the place is clean and food good. Be careful to visit on Sundays & holidays will look like a fish market and the taste of gravys will be compromised, the later you go the more watery it will be... And if you are a customer who wants to eat just meals or only idly does without any expensive side dishes, you can expect to be treated the worse possible way. I have seen their humble beginnings but as time went by its slowly turning out to be having a tinge of arrogance & money minded. If you have bundles of cash do visit & enjoy a tasty...
Read moreThis was the first eat out spot I visited in Madurai. It was just an average restaurant. There was nothing I felt that needs a special mention other than the "urali" used as basin in the hand wash region which was a great idea. The food was average or below average. We ordered the following:
Special egg onion dosa -₹90 (3/5) The stars have been reduced because the dosa was so small and think, more like an uthappam and the center part was still not cooked well.
Chicken curry dosa - ₹250 (3/5) The base was the same for all the 3 dosas with a small layer of chicken or prawn or egg as per the order. If that was so 250 for this is an extremely high price and not justifiable by the brand name this hotel has. You can get 1kg chicken with ₹200. (All dosas are approx 20cm in diameter)
Prawn curry dosa - ₹350 (3/5) Just as for the chicken dosa, price is too high for the size
Mutton balls - each ball ₹40 (4/5) This tasted good.
One suggestion would be to make the dosa as a dosa and not an uttappam and add the extras as a layer inside.. so both dosa and the extra (chicken or mutton) can be tasted. Please decrease the prices too. Chicken curry dosa was hardly worth even ₹150rs.
Also the restaurant is quite crowded in peak hours. So people do like it along with the restaurant area being...
