š Bang Tan Shef ā Mira Road: Great Food, But Service Needs a Rethink
Bang Tan Shef at Mira Road has been a favorite spot for Asian food lovers in the area, and over time it has built up a loyal following. Unfortunately, my latest visit left me with mixed feelings. While the food continues to impress, the service and hospitality have clearly deteriorated, which makes the dining experience fall short of expectations.

š„ Service & Seating Experience
From the start, our experience with service was disappointing. We requested to be seated on the first floor, as the ground floor seating is cramped and uncomfortable. Despite over 10 tables being free upstairs, we were told we couldnāt be seated there because āguests may comeā and, since there were only two of us, we were expected to stay downstairs. To make matters worse, I personally saw another couple being allowed to sit on the first floor without any issue.
It felt arbitrary and dismissive, and frankly, thatās not what good hospitality looks like. Eventually, we had to escalate the request to the owner himself, after which we were finally seated upstairs. Ironically, those 10 tables remained empty for the entire duration of our dinner. The whole situation left us with a sense that guest comfort and fairness are not being prioritized.
This lack of courtesy and transparency is very unlike what you expect from a restaurant that otherwise prides itself on being a premium Asian dining space. Even once we were seated, there was very little warmth or effort from the staff. The attitude felt mechanicalālike they were just doing the bare minimum instead of creating a welcoming experience.

š½ļø Food
Thankfully, the food continues to be the saving grace at Bang Tan Shef. Their menu still carries some truly standout dishes that justify their popularity. ⢠Ko Konut Ramen: This is an absolute must-try. A rich, flavorful broth with the perfect balance of coconut creaminess and spice. The noodles are cooked just right, and the toppings add depth and variety. This dish alone shows that the kitchen still has its heart in the right place.
Other dishes on the menu also deliver consistent quality, with authentic flavors, good portions, and thoughtful plating. Itās clear that the culinary team still understands their craft well.

šæ Ambience
The interiors remain stylish and cozy, with the upstairs area far more comfortable than the downstairs. The design feels modern, trendy, and definitely Instagram-worthy. Itās unfortunate that seating management creates unnecessary friction because the ambience is otherwise pleasant.

ā Final Verdict
Bang Tan Shef is still one of the better places in Mira Road for Asian cuisine, and food lovers will not be disappointed with the menuāespecially the Ko Konut Ramen. However, the hospitality and service have slipped badly, overshadowing the quality of the food. Guests should feel valued regardless of whether theyāre a couple or a larger group.
For me, this visit was a reminder that good food isnāt enough. Hospitality is what makes or breaks the dining experience. Unless service improves, Bang Tan Shef risks losing the goodwill it...

I was looking forward to visiting this restuarant for a while now. Had plans to visit it on Jin's birthday (4th Dec) but couldn't make it so I decided to take my family there for a post Christmas celebration. Now I have had ample of experience with korean food myself and got a couple of dishes home for my family to taste but it was their first experience of having korean food in a restaurant and it broke my heart because the food was absolutely not korean :( The start of this disappointing experience begun while we tried to order our food. I was eager to order some of the regular specials I had tasted before but the lady taking our order strongly recommended completely different dishes. My sister was really upset and was wondering if this is how it works in every korean resturant. We wanted to try the kimchi fried rice but was recommended a sizzler which was alright by itself but not too appealing to us. The Budae Jjigae was nothing but shezwan soup with some noodles in it. The ban ban chicken was the only thing I remotely enjoyed. The kimchi fried rice (which I stubbornly ordered even after the lady recommended the sizzler instead) was similar to the shezwan fried rice which we mumbaikars are very familiar with. My mom even asked me why do they call it kimchi fried rice when there weren't any kimchi in it. The restaurant was packed so we did not mind waiting at all. What took us by suprise was how open the staffs were with their personal arguments. The tension made us really uncomfortable. We also had to repeat our order only to the lady taking orders even after placing an order twice. The menu too was taken back from me while I was browsing for reasons unknown to me which upset my mom. They also had an offer going on, over korean dishes which wasn't counted for on our overall bill and I only realised that after paying. I did get a refund but it only added another grain to the mountain of sadness hovering over me. The only saving grace was our server Sam (I'm sorry if Im spelling your name incorrectly, I only heard it while the lady was yelling it out) who apologisef to us and told us how Sunday wasn't really a great day to be in there. My mom felt bad and offered him a tip which he declined saying "the next time you come we will serve you better and then I will ask you for a tip myself" I think I that apology was what saved me from getting an earful from my mom for taking us to a restaurant like this so thank you Sam š The ground floor interior is lovely but I was too sad and upset to take any selfies š„ŗ You may not be able to have authentic korean food without trained chefs but please do not call those dishes korean. To many army's and locals this may be the first place they visit to try some korean food. I hope they don't have the same...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAbsolutely infuriating experience! My visit to this so-called "restaurant" was an utter disaster from start to finish. We specifically ordered vegetarian food, but what did they serve us? Non-veg! It's like they don't even care about their customers' dietary preferences.
The wait time was an absolute nightmare. I understand that some waiting is inevitable, but waiting for over an hour just for a simple lime soda when there were hardly any tables occupied is downright ridiculous! And it wasn't just the drinks; the food took an eternity to arrive as well. It's as if they don't value their customers' time at all.
To make matters worse, there was no manager in sight! How can a restaurant function without a manager to oversee things? The receptionist and the waiters were absolutely clueless and uninterested in providing any kind of customer service. When we dared to complain about the wrong food being served, they just shrugged it off as if it was no big deal. Excuse me? It is a big deal when you mess up someone's order!
Instead of attending to their responsibilities, the staff seemed more interested in gossiping and chit-chatting amongst themselves. We, the paying customers, were treated as if we were invisible or a nuisance to their little social gathering.
I cannot stress this enough: DO NOT waste your time and money at this restaurant. The lack of professionalism, care, and basic customer service is beyond unacceptable. We will not be returning, and I will make sure to warn everyone I know to avoid this place like the plague.
In summary, if you want a dining experience that's filled with frustration, wrong orders, endless waiting, and a complete lack of regard for customers, then by all means, go to this restaurant. But if you have any respect for your time and expect a minimum level of competence from the staff, run away from this place as fast as you can. Save yourself the headache and disappointment ā there are far better...
