Mangalore Buns
Hot-cross buns! One a penny, two a penny, Hot-cross buns! My personal favorite, this one is a popular breakfast or tea time snack in the coastal region of Karnataka, India. This food belongs to coastal cuisine. The buns are mildly sweet, soft fluffy puris made using all-purpose flour, fully ripe bananas, sugar, and curd. If you intend to make a healthier option, you can replace all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour and sugar with jaggery. These buns are also called as banana buns or pooris. This can be served with dal, sambar, or can be eaten just as it is.
Govaa Shevya Usli / Govaa Shevayi Phanna / Seasoned Wheat Noodles In Coconut Oil And Garnished With Freshly Grated Coconut
Shevayi Usli Phanna is a typical GSB Konkani breakfast.Shevayi is pre-made wheat noodles and Usli is seasoning, Govu means Wheat kernels. This dish is also known as Shevayi Phanna. These are easily available in any Mangalore store around you. One gets a variety of these noodles (Rice, Wheat, Ragi, Rulaav are the popular varieties available). These require a soak time of 20-30 minutes and can be cooked immediately for a breakfast/ supper. These noodles are not commercially available kinds but are mostly hand-made and sold. It takes a bit of effort, but the taste of these noodles are a far cry from the popular semiya/ vermicelli brands.
Tandla Shevya Usli / Tandla Shevayi Phanna / Seasoned Rice Noodles In Coconut Oil And Garnished With Freshly Grated Coconut

Tuppa Dosa Served With Godda Ravo (Jaggery Syrup)And Loni (White Butter) - $100
Desi ghee Dosa served with jaggery syrup and unsalted white butter. There are literally umpteen variety of dosas in south India. Every south Indian house has its unique recipes of dosa. This one is Mangalore special dosa. Any udipi restaurant you enter in Mangalore and you will surely find this crispy variety on their menus. Similar preparation in Bangalore is known as Benne Dosa. This dosa, unlike any other variety of dosas, has all-purpose flour in this as its key ingredient. Generally, all dosas are served with different types of chutneys, however, this one at our house is served with jaggery syrup and Loni ( white butter )One of it's kind and super crispy dosa.
Egg Ghee Roast - $200
Ghee is the star ingredient of this dish. Generally, coastal cuisine uses coconut liberally in various forms. But this special dish from coastal doesn't need coconut. Roasting the boiled eggs in ghee along with ground paste of Beydagi chilly and Indian spices makes this dish delicious. You can relish this finger-licking dish with neer dosa or hot steamed rice.
