This was probably our fourth or fifth visit to JP's lunch home and after them setting high expectations based on our previous visits which were excellent for quality and service this visit was an utter disappointment on multiple factors, makes me wonder should we recommend to others anymore.
So this is what happened : We ordered 2 Jayleela Special Malwani Fish Thalis, 2 Malwani Prawns Sukha Thali with Bhakri, 1 Malwani Surmai Fry (single piece), 1 Malwani Prawns fry 12 pcs. First, the thali items came in parts instead of one go, confusing us about its contents which resulted in an extra cost of Rs 20 being applied since the jawla sukha for 2 prawn thalis was given in a single wati giving the impression that one thali has not recieved which led to a request for jawla and then later an extra charge. Then quite unexpected, the surmai fry pieces 1 in thali and 2 in jayleela special thali were masala coated but smelly as if not fresh, which is a USP assurance of this place. The Prawns sukkha masala that came in all the thalis was just very spicy with flavour missing, no one enjoyed it. Since food was not tasty and we had a heavy breakfast, we decided and requested multiple items to be packed which included the pomfret curry and prawns sukha masala in both special thalis, somehow (hoping it was genuine error, being a busy sunday) the prawns fry about 9 pcs and surmai fry 1 nd half pc were not given in the take away bag, which we realised only after we reached home, the monetary cost of which was in range of Rs 800 to 900 which went missing on a bill of Rs. 3821. Our dining details are Date: 01/06/25 ; Bill No 5348 ; Table No 1 ; Emp No 3. Would like to hear back from the restaurant as to...
Read moreTwo random trips to JPs and one would say, its ummm...fair enough, if you want to splurge on regular seafood. Nothing exceptional here. The prices for the thalis and other individual dishes could burn a hole in the pocket. The food served could get a tad bit spicy.
Quantity & number of items per thali is very limited if you're looking for something elaborate and substantial. The pomfret & prawn thalis came with just a gravy, a tiny bowl of extra gravy (which was missing in the pomfret thali) and had to be asked for. A choice of neer dosas or appams, will render an extra charge. What with the minimum being approx. 650 - 700 Rs. Steep, I'd say. No side of veggies,(which usually accompanies any thali), a tiny bowl of a sweet dish (which was yummy), 1 papad & a miniscule amount of rice, a very small palm-sized pomfret / 4 medium sized fried prawns. That's it. No idea if they give you an extra helping, atleast we weren't told about it. The veg thali was more elaborate. Dal, rice, 3 veggie dishes, papad, sweet dish. Period.
One observed several hungry diners who entered, scanned the menu & promptly left, perhaps on noting the steep prices. Not practical if one is looking for a quick, satisfying lunch on a working day. Having to hop off & scout for another venue, is very disappointing, to say the least.
The pricing does not justify the service or the ambience, which is extremely basic and dated. Mediocre fare, steep pricing, very basic thali. No veggies, no pickles. Nothing. Food appeared to be fresh, though. But,...
