Popular Sandwiches & More — Restaurant in Mumbai

Opposite to Deepak Cinema, it is the 'Popular Sandwiches and more' as the name calls for in and around in the area. As the name suggests, the place is a hub for sandwich varieties. But sandwiches are not the only option that you'll get here, there are vast varieties in Pizzas, burgers, Maggi, Milkshakes and Juices too. Their menu also includes Pav Bhaji in cheese and without cheese, ice creams, Garlic Bread and sometimes Caramel Custard. Their Cheese Chocolate Sandwich has become quite popular amongst people who visit here quite often like me. Prices are inexpensive and reasonable so you can divulge yourself into their quick hot serves within few minutes. Though the place has got limited seating arrangement, it serves perfectly delicious eateries in reasonable prices. I have been a regular eater over here and especially I have eaten 'Cheese Chocolate Sandwich' quite many a times. This review is collectively based on my more than two times eating experiences over here. My orders have been-

1. Cheese Chocolate Sandwich- Price Rs 90/- It tastes the best when eaten hot, so don't miss out on eating it right away when its served.

2. Pav Bhaji- Price approx Rs 50-60 The finely chopped bhaji is very yummy and perfectly cooked. It tastes delicious with butter tossed little Pavs(buns)

3. Schezwan Maggi- Price approx Rs 50-60 This is my second most favourite bite from here. It is spicy, delectable and tangy at the same time.

4. Veg Grilled Sandwich- Price approx Rs 50-60 Since the place has been started with all its sandwich varieties, Veg grilled sandwich is a pride that the place can hold. It is yummy and delicious, no doubt at all.

5. Veggie Delight Pizza- Price approx Rs 100 This pizza is full of veggie like tomato, capsicum and onion. It is served fresh and warm that subsequently gives the yummier taste. Please don't go for ambience as the place is small with minimum seating but the savoury is worth a try! Its food is delightful and...

Popular is a small sandwich joint in Lower Parel which has food offerings at a very nominal rate. Having tried their home delivery service, I found the service to be very prompt. Popular will definitely earn brownie points for quick delivery and neat packaging.

As for the food, here’s what I tried:

Veg Grilled Sandwich This is your regular roadside grilled sandwich stuffed with chopped onions, tomatoes, capsicum and potatoes. There’s a mildly spiced coriander chutney which is spread in all the sandwiches. Since you can’t really go wrong with a sandwich like this, it’s worth a try.

Corn Cheese Grilled Sandwich I had high expectations from this sandwich but found it to be very disappointing. Again, the coriander chutney spread was in it and it absolutely did not complement the boiled corn and capsicum. The cheese had hardened by the time it had reached so the taste was close to awful. Definitely would not recommend this.

Samosa Grilled Sandwich As the name suggests, the sandwich is stuffed with a deconstructed samosa. The filling was slightly spicy and the sandwich had a very desi taste to it. It’s a heavy sandwich and definitely not for someone who doesn’t like to experiment with sandwiches.

Plain Garlic Bread The garlic bread, which looked burnt in the first go didn’t falter on taste. I expected it to be disappointing but the garlic bread tasted surprisingly good. With chucks of garlic stuffed on top of a sesame bun and generous helpings of butter spread on top, this garlic bread is worth a try.

Overall, I wouldn’t rate the quality of food very high. Perhaps having the sandwiches freshly made at the restaurant would taste better but would not recommend their delivery service. The only highlights were the reasonable rates, prompt service and proper packaging...

I was looking for a restaurant to order from on Zomato and found this one. I had seen this restaurant when I went to Deepak Cinema for a movie but never went inside. Pricing was very inviting and so were the reviews, so I ordered few items from here.

Garlic Bread with Cheese: Good garlic bread but not among the best ones I have tried. 3.5/5 on taste.

Pizza Grilled Sandwich: This was the best one of the lot. It was a grilled sandwich with stuffings similar to Indian pizzas which give it its name. The taste was good and quantity was filling. 4/5 on taste.

Masala Cheese Grilled Sandwich: Varieties of stuffing inside but could not make out anything standing out. But still a good tasting one. 3.5/5 on taste.

Mushroom Cheese Grilled Sandwich: Flavours were very mild and a bit on the drier side. But still, it was good. 3/5 on taste.

Pineapple Juice: Juice was watery but the taste was good. 3.5/5 on taste.
