If you happen to be around Goregaon and authentic maharashtrian food is something that excites you, then don't think twice, head to Sapre & Sons. Located in less than a minute walk from Goregaon west railway station, this place will surely enlighten your taste buds. During my visit, below is what i happen to try.
1)Misal Pav: This dish doesn't need any introduction, so I'll move on to the taste & quantity. The taste is absolutely lip smacking and the quantity surely suffices one person with probably an extra pav.
2)Batata Vada: The spice was well balanced with a thin and crispy coating. Most of the dishes are served with a coconut chutney and a dry coconut and garlic powder which compliments the dish really well.
4)Kanda bhaji: Perfectly crisp and no second thoughts, a definite try.
5)Sabudana Vada: Perfectly crisp on the outside, while the stuffing on the inside is soft and delicious. Goes perfectly well with the coconut and peanut chutney.
6)Kothimbir Vadi: This was way too delicious. Perfect mixture of coriander, crushed peanuts and spices made it taste really well.
7)Piyush: Prepared from a mix of Srikhand, Buttermilk, Sugar, Cardamom and Nutmeg. If you haven't tried this ever, then it's time to do it now. The sweetness wasn't too over powering the drink and it complimented the rest if the dishes really well.
Rating: 1)Ambiance:3/5 With around 5-6 tables inside and 3-4 on the outside, sometimes makes it difficult to find a table.
2)Service: 3/5 The service is average but pretty quick.
3)Food (Taste & Presentation): 4/5
4)Value for money:...
Read moreSapre & Sons started by Shri Mahadev Sapre will be 50 years old in the next 2 years; it was established in 1970. But before he ventured into the restaurant business, Shri Sapre made & sold "Shrikand Wadi" which is supposedly his creation. It's a confectionery which was very famous in my school going days but rarely to be seen these days.
They have a list of 150+ plus items, out of which they have a combination of dishes are available as per season. Their focus is on regional savouries & sweets & stay away from serving popular items like Idli, Medhu Wada & Dosa.
They serve a specialty which is rare to be found, chutney mixed with Dahi. It's a regular coconut & mint chutney but gets a different tangent when mixed with Dahi.
I have tried their BATATA WADA [INR 40], the stiffing is soft & mushy and with a nice combination of ginger & garlic. The Wada was nice & crispy. Then I tried the MISAL [INR 70], the gravy was mild and poured over mix lentils & garnished with farsan and finely chopped onions.
I ordered for a MASALA BHATH which was nicely prepared & flavoured. It was served garnished with fresh coconut shavings. As a side dish to it, I asked for ALU WADI [INR 45], they pieces were fried crisp to the point of being over fried. The taste though was very nice and it was served with a dry red garlic chutney & the Dahi chutney.
The place is clean & hygienic. The service is fast & efficient. The prices are pocket friendly.
If you are looking to have Maharashtrian snacks in and around Goregaon West then without a doubt you should head to Sapre & Sons which at a 5-7 minutes walk...

A family own business that is merely surviving because of their expert skill of camouflaging food as "Marathi" food and the benefit of location.
i know this place for the past 3 years and i have seen them get from bad to worst. i do not have any grudges or issues with these guys but just sharing my true and honest opinion about this place take it or leave it.
majority of the food items are outsourced, which these people merely heat or fry and sever it on concave dishes that give a fake feel of quantity. once i had been to their eatery in the early hours in the morning thats when i realized that the "thalipeeth" that i loved to eat was just fried at their end whereas it is originally a limited marked food item from "Bedekars" costing only INR 20.
The misal and Usal are just the same given with some different garnish. even the cold beverages like PIYUSH are outsourced to a doodhwall bhaya nearby.
over all the place lacks basic cleanliness. when a person visits this place we get a clear feeling of person sitting at the GULLA just to get his money who has no concern what so ever is happen in the eatery. i wish if you guys go and have a look at the kitchen ... i sware people will not ever see this place .. very dirty.
This is just a eatery not ever a hotel. just by speaking marathi and having a menu with marathi food items written in regional language dosent make it an authentic one.
there need to have a complete overhaul in terms of the view to this place
if it was some 3 to 4 years before i could have recommended but as of now my rating says it...
