Shalimar Restaurant — Restaurant in Mumbai

Recommend Lata Restaurant @Kandivali West Station, Check out my review for Biryani, Paneer Butter Masala et al.

Came here bcuz Dad used to frequently visit Shalimar @South Mumbai since it's inception, many many decades earlier! Also Alibaba cafe had recommended some restaurant for Mughlai cuisine.

They are not what PPL working in Restaurant business should be like at this Branch!

Firstly, for a legacy business, service is NO WHERE CLOSE to its reputation. There are lots of Flies on table and inside your food, right under the A/c. Upon entering the waiter comes to your place, keeps the menu and NOT ASKING FOR WATER , leaves. Having asked for 5mins, he came back within two minutes. Asked him time, he Stares us with an awkward and Angry look and STANDS THERE , GOES AWAY VERY SLOWLY AS I LOOKED BACK AT HIM🙄

STILL we didn't leave!

Then like GREEDY RESTAURANTS, KEEPS WARM BOTTLE BISLERI VEDICA(RS 150/LITRE WARM WATER)

DOES NOT EVEN MENTIONS ABOUT REGULAR GLASS OF WATER, WHICH IS NOT BAD, UNLIKE OTHER PLACES WHICH HAVE TO RELY ON PACKAGED WATER.

I'D BEEN CARRYING SAME VEDICA BOTTLE THAT DAY, SO NO NEED OF PAYING 150RS FOR 60RS BOTTLE. LIKE PRITAM DA DHABA ANOTHER LEGACY RESTAURANT (CHECK MY REVIEW) THIS PLACE IS NOT EVEN SPARING YOU ON WATER. ALSO IS ALIBABA CAFE CHARGING RS 40/- FOR RS20/- BISLERI THAT TOO WARM!

ORDERED CHICKEN BIRYANI, WHICH WAS TOO LITTLE, MORE BONES THAN MEAT. Delectable, mild too little and overpriced! Ate chicken, outside after leaving this place and before reaching station! Similar to Lucky's jogeshwari & bandra station (serves little quantity, poor service@bandra legacy Restaurant) Alibaba cafe QUANTITY was More than here. All overpriced.

There is Something about budget month, when week s before Budget is announced Restaurant reduces it's Serving portion!

Wanted to leave, as service WASN'T UPTO THE MARK.

Waiter instead of serving it like in bowl, half with Masala/Gravy and other Plain Yellow rice, Served Gravy less rice at first Serving to Dad and with Gravy to me.

Flies started hovering above food, Raita is Perfect 5 on 5👌Flies were in food, waiter was too cool about that.

Second dish ordered was Paneer Butter Masala, Two Butter Naan despite bad service and hygiene, they require you to collect take away from outside. Quantity is good, taste is not. Waiting time is too long. Mind that Charge is of A/C, not less, so they, upon ASKING will say no issues if you sit inside!

Outside is too slippery, with WET floor, you'd slip at each step. Paneer Butter Masala tasted like Lemon Pickle and Paneer was, unlike Lata Restaurant, not good too little and hard. Price should not be Rs100 to 150/- Butter Naan was big, fat without seasoning and good until the day! Take care when you visit this place, it's slippery when you enter, take reg water as it's good instead of being charged exorbitantly for WARM WATER, 3-5 FLIES ON TABLE AND IN FOOD and 0 on 10 SERVICE. A legacy restaurant serving us for the last 5 decades; established in 1970 in Bhendi Bazaar and currently having 4 outlets in Mumbai.

We recently visited them on a weekday for dinner at their Jogeshwari outlet which has been operational since 2 years now.

Plush sofas & chair in dark coffee brown shade with dining tables in cream N light brown tone to balance the colors to well-done walls and brightly lit light boxes as chandeliers makes this place warm and inviting and a sets the mood right, the place is perfect for a family dinner to catching up with friends for meal.

A menu that boasts about varieties of appetizers to main course to desserts be it authentic Mughlai dishes or well prepared Indian styled Chinese cuisine.

Started with a round of appetizers :

Chicken Cheesy kebabs : Served along with fresh cut salad, these kebabs are chicken breast portion stuffed with cheese and coated with red tandoori spices and grilled just right. For the love of cheese and chicken this appetizer will definitely make your palates happy.

Murg Mumtaz : An absolute stunner of an appetizer and the first I have had it! 2 pieces of chicken legs stuffed with minced chicken to form a shape of a inflated balloon and marinated in curd and tandoored to a golden brown in color. Do not go by the number of pieces served but rather savor the flavors; a delicacy to be relished and definitely recommended.

Moved on to our Mains :

Chicken Tikka Masala : Tomato enriched gravy along with Indian spices made this thick gravy truly delectable and it came with 4 large chunks of chicken to go along with the whole wheat tandoori roti & tandoori paratha. Tandoori paratha splurged with butter was a better palate pleaser when mixed with the gravy; an in-house specialty & a good option to call for your main course.

Chicken Dum Biriyani : No over/under use of masala but simply right mixed with long grain basmati rice and well-cooked pieces of chicken (Bone & Boneless) with potato pieces mixed in as well to complete the feeling of a home cooked flavored & perfect biryani.

On a Sweet note we were already too stuffed to try out their faloodas so settled for Matka Rabdi & Shahi Tukda. The Matka rabdi was served chilled in an earthern clay pot and topped with pistachios, the Shahi tukda was warm and loaded with ghee and sprinkled with dry fruits.

The staff here is extremely prompt and courteous and service is surprisingly fast and food quality top notch!

We had an nice time dining here and our host Mr. Ramzan was always around...

Shalimar restaurant amazing mughlai and north indan food served this outlet old i heard about this place same outlet in bhendi bazar in South Mumbai amazing place so i can't visit there so i decided to try this near my place of Jogeshwari this place is near Jogeshwari west railway station, Shalimar have more 2 outlet in mumbai, i really excited to try here food i visit for dinner i check out the outlet the amazing air-conditioned ambiance and very lightful it's like you visit some royal place, ambiance are very clean and hygiene all the seating arrangements are very comfortable and big i really like the place on my own experience, service by the staff are good everyone is working very hard they are cooperative with customers, after i Check the menu there are big menu like mughlai,north and Chinese food are in the menu veg and non veg variety of food available laso the mutton and sea food available here i start with starter we are in north indian and mughlai restaurant so we are decided to try tandoori food so i had one pahadi and Reshmi chicken tikka both are amazing juicy chicken spicy marinated tender chicken well cooked, after i had murgh sholey masala with Butter naan amazing murgh sholey masala i really really like this murgh masala i recomend to this lipsmacking dish very spicy and flavourfull this dish after i had chicken tikka Biryani amazing aroma of Biryani giving in handi hot Biryani served, after i had dessert in the early i try lots of food so i didn't expect dessert i eat but i had one Kesar kulfi and the Shalimar special falooda both are amazing, this restaurant welcome for family and others also but having fun with food i really enjoy, the staff treating very well .
