Thambbi Veg Restaurant — Restaurant in Mumbai

Hotel Thambbi is an Udupi food chain which has 5 outlets around Mumbai and a new one in Thane.

Thambbi means a little brother or also can refer to friend who is like a bro, so in this context it would be your friendly neighbourhood Udupi hotel serving you good food n beverages.

The decor is very simple n the place is not that big but it's good enough to grab a quick bite or two at a reasonable price.

Mysore Bonda: these are made from the same batter as other fermented items like Idlli, dosa, etc but has coconut pieces in it and few spices added to it to form fritters.

They were crispy but not too oily and tasted great with the sambar, coconut red chilli chutney n white chutney provided with it.

Medu Wada: an all time favourite in Mumbai and we expect it to be nothing but good in any Udupi hotel, which is also the case here. Good crispy wada's and a great sambar n chutney were very nice on the palate.

Paniyaram: these are again balls made from the same batter as Idlli's and are steamed in special spherical metal moulds. The steamed balls are then lightly fried on a pan or tawa and served with chutney. Only authentic South Indian hotels serve this dish and it is worth a try.

Filter Coffee: a visit to any Udupi hotel is incomplete without the steaming cuppa of kaapi , the coffee here is near perfect and...

Reasons for 2 stars mentioned below: Waiting for the waiter, the restaurant was empty yet we had to call out to the waiter for the menu & water. After asking what's good for lunch, he sternly replied " special udhar likha hai" I.e. "specials are written over there". Finally after asking placing the order; 1 Masala Dosa, 1 butter idli, 3 Dal khichdi. Arrived after 10-15mins, which wasn't that big a problem. Food was absolutely lovely, Dal Khichdi was perfectly made, although the sambar given with the Dosa could have been hot and not warm was tasty. We were there for lunch at 1:15pm, and asked for the Apple Shira, as I had heard that it's amazing. Sad to say they were out so had to settle for pineapple Shira, which to be honest was just normal shira with exactly 6 small peices of pineapple :( Ambience was Good, but had to ask the cashier to put the AC on, but in turn he just put the fan on. Because I was enjoying my Dal Khichdi, I have finished my perfectly made papad, wanting 1 more I requested the waiter, in turn he gave me a deadly look, but later gave me 1 more. Price - pricewise Thambbi is great value for money, for the lovely. Over all I enjoyed Thambbi's Food & will recommend it only for the food, staff wise they do...

This restaurant specialist south Indian food and Indian foods also Tandoori items are there....

The reasturent Ambience was so amazing and old is gold restaurant...

Cold coffee One of the premium items and very amazing and fanstic taste and wounderful ingredients and trooping coffee quality and quantity also good and very reasonable price...

Dal Wada .. One of the best items and south Indian and very amazing and taste was so amazing and Sambhar was so amazing....

Pav bhaji One of the best items and very amazing taste and wounderful ingredients and trooping vegetables and chesse and bread was so crunchy and yummy taste.

Masala dosa One of the best quality and quantity dosa and very reasonable price and quantity also good and better taste and mouth watering also good taste and declious taste and vegetables inside...

Overall the foods experience was so amazing....

Services was so excellent.

Polite staff members and nice to talk suggest new varties special items...
