As you all know i love to try restaurants which specialize in serving sea food. One of my fellow foodie mate recommended to me The Fisherman Kitchen & Bar.
The restaurant is located in the vicinity of Goregaon West. They specialise in serving South Indian, North India and Sea food varieties.
The restaurant has a spacious wooden seating which gives you a nice traditional vibe. They have a pretty bar which serves drinks on offers and well crafted Cocktails.
We ordered Kiwi Margherita and Energy Sunrise in Mocktails. Bartender Manoj prepared the mocktails to perfection. The drinks were well presented and were refreshing in taste. I loved the energy sunrise as it had a kick of red bull.
Our table was attended by Anil. Who served us throughout with a nice positive smile and warm hospitality. Prakash was also prompt at service.
Anil recommended their signature Sri Lankan Prawns and Squid Rings. Both the dishes had generous quantities. Coming to the taste.. Sri Lankan Prawns were cooked with yellow mustard paste. The dish was non spicy with a creamy texture and had a very comforting taste.
Squid Rings were golden fried and garnished with small chopped onions, fried garlic and spring onions. The squids were crispy and it tasted heavenly with the garlic punch.
For the main course we ordered Mix Sea Food Thali. The thali would easily suffice 2 average eaters. It had a variety of javla fish, prawns, basa fish Goan Curry, crab curry, kokam kadi, fat rice, neer dosas, clams sukkha, salad and dates payassam.
For the price the thali was a great deal. The quantity of the food was amazing and the taste was even better. We loved Goan Curry with rice the most and dessert dates payassam gave us a nice sweet end to the meal.
Overall a beautiful experience for me and my partner. Kudos to the chef for the amazing taste in the food and special thanks to Manoj and Anil for the professional and warm hospitality.
I will look forward to visiting the restaurant with my family and...
Read moreThis is located at at a rather unwelcoming place and when we reached the entrance, we were unsure, if we had picked the right place. The interiors are good if not great. And reassuring too, considering the restaurants location.
The menu, I felt was priced, a tad higher than the usual. We ate stuffed bombil, srilankan prawns, surmai thali and kombdi vade with chicken combo. The Thalee can easily be shared between two and the chicken portion with kombdi vade too can be shared by 2.
The preparation for all items seemed better but the lack of fresh fish did not do justice to srilankan prawns and surmai thalee. We wouldn’t mind visiting again when fresh fish is available in the market aplenty.
The stuffed bombil was an exception though and tasted good as the bombil seemed fresh. The chicken with the kombdi vade was good but not great. I did not find the kombdi vade spectacular either. It is the vade that make the kombdi vade dish special is what I feel, so in that sense, they were a let down.
The thalee was the biggest let down. The sol curry was atrocious. The fish curry was marred by the fish quality and the fried fish was not something you would pay money to have. The fish fry masala seemed just red chilly powder. I have eaten better fish fry in some very non assuming old bar and restaurants. So that’s a shame for a restaurant that’s claiming to be the place to eat fish.
There was a small portion of a curry in the thalee, which seemed like Thai curry and it was really good. The neer dosa was extremely good. The dry prawns preparation in the thalee was good too. But what mattered the most - the fish - was not fresh and the fried fish recipe, as I mentioned earlier needs to get better, if the thalee wants to pack a punch.
Overall I felt that given a choice, I would be reluctant to choose this place when I have craving for fish. But I may choose it again if I am in the mood to try something different like srilankan preparations. And hopefully they will...
