Found another hidden gem today.. And this discovery is going to stay with me for quite some time! This is because its on my way towards Pune from Mumbai! So now onwards whenever i will start for Pune late on Friday evening, I know where to dine at-- it would be at Malvani Kitchen" (मालवणी किचन)(MK) at CBD Belapur.. Located on the first floor of a non-discrete building in Sector 4 of CBD Belapur, MK is not a commercial hotel strictly.. One can call it as a खाणावळ instead.. Its basically a flat wherein the there are 4-5 tables placed in the hall and food is prepared in the kitchen.. Hence, there is no ambience at all.. But come to food, and you will be blown away by the taste.. Its a typical Malvani fare and you know why i am so impressed!! My origins are from Malvan region of Maharashtra.. The food from this region has a distinct flavour.. The use of coconut is predominant and still the gravy would be spicy due to the use of dry red chillies and coriander seeds (धणे).. I have always believed that the best seafood is the one where i can binge on basic fish curry and rice.. Having come from Konkan belt, i have grown up on the staple food of rice and gravy with some fried items only to give the the company during the meal.. Hence i am biased towards those restaurants which give me good authentic curry than those flashy restaurants which serves delicacies such as tandoori varieties of fish or say butter-garlic veriants of squid/prawns.. This is where MK scores heavily over many other seafood restaurants i have been to in Mumbai.. They will serve you basic items only such as bhakri, rice, fish curry and fried fish, but the food is absolutely tasty.. We were 5 people and we had Chicken thali, Surmai (King Fish) Thali, Prawns Thali, Pomfret Thali and Tisrya (clams) Thali.. Each of these thalis was brilliant.. Chicken Thali had 2 types of gravies and vade .. Vade was outstanding so was the gravy.. Tisrya masala reminded me of the preparation at home where we use potato and drum stick while making the dish.. Absolute delicious.. Fish Thali had one fried fish and prawns gravy..Fried fish fortunately was shallow fried and not deep fried, which many restaurants unfortunately resorts to.. Thats another point where MK scores heavily.. Prawns were fresh and as they were not deep fried, they tasted heavenly.. If i have to give them ratings, I will give them 4.5 out of 5... I am deducting half a point for the fact that they dont serve sol kadhi in the thali.. Just imagine having a glass full of Sol kadhi after this delicious meal.. Wow!! Anyways, I am still drooling over while writing this.. Hopefully, my next visit would come very...

Read moreBeing a person who absolutely adores fish, Malvani Kitchen has quickly become one of my top favorite dining spots. The Bombil fry and pomfret tawa fry are absolute must-tries that I simply cannot resist. The flavors are outstanding, and the fish is always cooked to perfection. Additionally, their chicken biryani is another gem on the menu that should not be missed. It is packed with delicious spices and the tender chicken adds an extra level of satisfaction. Apart from their delectable non-vegetarian offerings, Malvani Kitchen also caters to vegetarians with their special veg thali available exclusively on Tuesdays. This thali is a delightful option for those looking for a culinary adventure without meat. Overall, Malvani Kitchen is a haven for fish lovers like me, but it also offers a diverse range of options to suit different palates. Don't forget to give their Bombil fry, pomfret tawa fry, chicken biryani, and special veg thali a try for a truly memorable...
