I visited this place on one of those Sundays when you get up super early in the morning, go for a nice workout and then want to eat something filling and healthy(read not fried). I was looking for a place that serves some good South Indian breakfast and Google suggested this place as a highly rated place. Guess it wasn't wrong!
This place has a big hall with the payment counter and the food counter at the very start. It doesn't have any tables, just benches lined up near the walls for you to sit and have the super awesome food. I guess they haven't paid a lot of heed to the ambience of the place, as they know that their food is the champion.
Tried the Idly Sambar here. The idly was freshly prepared and the Sambar was plain with a hint of sweetness which went really well with the Idly. The coconut chutney was a bit watery but it still tasted great. Also tried their Upma with Aloo Subzi. The Upma was too plain for my liking, with no dry fruits or kadi patta in it. The aloo Subzi was spicy, which would go really well with the Puris that they serve (didn't try it though). As big a sweet lover as I am, I wanted to try their halwa, but decided to go against it (healthy breakfast, remember?). The halwa looked really tempting though, with its bright orange colour and cashew pieces.
The lack of tables is a bummer and the reason why a 4 star rating. I recommend this place of you want to have a good, hearty breakfast at a...
Read moreI traveled from France to revisit this place, hoping to relive the flavors of my childhood. Back in the golden days, the food here was absolutely delicious, and every visit was filled with joy. However, this time, I felt a difference. The taste that once made this place special seemed to have faded.
The uttapam was quite dry, lacking the softness and rich flavors I remembered. It used to be one of my favorites, but today, it didn’t meet my expectations. Perhaps the recipe has changed, or something was missing.
On the other hand, the idli and upma were excellent. The idli was soft and fluffy, and the upma had a perfect balance of flavors, just like I remembered. These dishes reminded me why I loved this place in the first place.
Overall, while some dishes didn’t match my past experiences, I still appreciate the effort and the memories attached to this place. Maybe it was just an off day for the uttapam, or perhaps my tastes have changed over time. Either way, I’m grateful for the experience and the nostalgia. Thank you for the meal and...
Read moreThe Samal Tiffin Centre serves up a delightful array of Odisha cuisine that tantalizes the taste buds. I ordered a feast of puri-upma, puri-idli, samosa, dahi bara aloo dum, and halwa, and each dish was a testament to the flavors of the region. The puri-upma and puri-idli were fluffy and light, the samosas were perfectly crispy with a flavorful filling, and the dahi bara aloo dum offered a satisfying blend of tangy and spicy flavors. To top it off, the halwa was a sweet indulgence that rounded out the meal beautifully.
