Highlights: GREAT FOOD (LAL MAAS, NEAPOLITAN PIZZA, FETTUCCINI PASTA) FAST & GREAT SERVICE REALLY AMAZING MUSIC
What We Had: Laal Maas, Neapolitan Pizza, Fettuccini Alfredo Pasta, Virgin Mojito, Brownie with Ice Cream, Garlic Naan
When someone said in review that it was difficult to define if this place was better at its Italian cuisine or Rajasthani cuisine, they were not joking.
We visited this place twice on our trip to Udaipur, once to have their Italian cuisine and the second time just to have their Laal Maas & both the occasions we were pleasantly surprised.
The Laal Maas had perfectly cooked mutton and a very flavourful gravy where you could literally taste a plethora of spices, but nothing was overpowering. A common problem with Laal Maas that I have seen is that it’s either too oily or too spicy. However, Poppy manages to serve this dish overcoming both of these challenges.
If we talk about the Italian cuisine, it goes perfectly well with the music and aesthetics of the place, and if you visit the place on an overcast afternoon or morning, it adds to the vibe. It’s almost like as soon as you enter the place and sit on a table, It calls out for you to order Italian Food. We ordered some fettuccine pasta, and we could literally see the pasta being prepared by the restaurant staff before they served it to us. The pasta and the sauce were perfect. The sauce had the perfect texture of creaminess & was well seasoned and the hand made pasta was neither too soft, not too chewy. Talking about the Neopolitan pizza, and I’m not exaggerating, it might be one of the best Neopolitan pizzas available in India. The Marinero sauce was out of this world, and you could feel that the mozzarella cheese topped on the sauce was freshly prepared and very flavourful. Added to this, a very intelligent choice of veggies made sure that you have a burst of flavours, in your mouth as you have each bite. Added to this, the pizza dough was complimenting to this, and had a very nice crust on the outside while being a bit chewy on the inside, just like a perfect Neopolitan pizza.
The Service was the cherry on top, as their staff was very polite, prompt and quick in serving and communicating with their customers and always tried to understand the mood and preferences of the customers and recommended dishes based on that.
My Verdict : This place is a must visit if you are ever going to Udaipur and want to have some amazing food along with an amazing vibe. Be it a group of friends or a couples date. This place can be a perfect setting for any occasion. Further if you are a big fan of Italian cuisine, specially Neopolitan pizza are handmade pasta. It won’t be a bad decision, even if you just visit Udaipur to have a...
Read moreOur culinary journey at Poppy by Royal Repast in Udaipur was nothing short of delightful. This restaurant, nestled in the heart of the city, offers a royal dining experience with a menu that celebrates the rich flavors of Rajasthan.
We started with the Gatte ki Sabji, a traditional Rajasthani dish that truly impressed us. The soft, flavorful gatte were perfectly complemented by the rich, tangy gravy, making it a must-try for anyone visiting. Pairing it with the garlic naan was a great choice—the naan was fresh, buttery, and had just the right amount of garlic to enhance the flavors without overpowering the dish.
Next up was the khichdi, and it was nothing short of amazing. Comforting and hearty, it had that perfect balance of spices and texture that made it a standout dish. The raita served alongside added a refreshing contrast, with its cool, creamy texture and subtle hints of cumin and coriander.
To quench our thirst, we tried their lemonade and chaach. The lemonade was refreshing, with just the right balance of sweetness and tanginess. The chaach, a traditional buttermilk drink, was perfectly spiced and incredibly refreshing, making it the ideal accompaniment to the rich flavors of our meal.
Finally, we couldn’t resist the aloo parantha. It was crispy on the outside, soft and flavorful on the inside, just as a good parantha should be. Every bite was a delightful mix of spices and textures, leaving us thoroughly satisfied.
Overall, our dining experience at Poppy by Royal Repast was wonderful. The food was exceptional, the service was warm and attentive, and the ambiance added a touch of royalty to our meal. It’s a place we would highly recommend to anyone looking to explore the authentic flavors of Rajasthan...
Read moreI had a reservation at this restaurant via Zomato, but upon arrival, I was told there was no table available. This was after I had already called to confirm the reservation. The lack of hospitality was astounding. We were not greeted, offered water, or even given a place to wait. My mother, who suffers from arthritis, was left standing without any offer of assistance or a seat. The owners were dismissive, informing us that all tables were full and they had no intention of honoring our reservation
When I asked why they bother taking reservations if they can’t honor them, the response was that they don’t accept reservations through Zomato. If that’s the case, why list themselves on the app at all? The owners were shockingly rude and showed zero regard for their customers. They acted as though our presence was an inconvenience, rather than the reason their business exists. After a heated exchange, they condescendingly offered us an outdoor table as if they were doing us a favor.
I have no problem waiting at restaurants, even for hours, but what makes the experience bearable is the treatment you receive. In well-run establishments, the owners or staff often acknowledge those waiting, sometimes with small gestures like a complimentary snack, to show that customers are valued. Here, there was none of that—just blatant disrespect. We drove five hours to reach this city and made this restaurant our first stop because we believed we had a reservation. The unprofessionalism and rudeness we encountered were...
