From the moment you enter, the restaurant gives off a welcoming, family-friendly vibe. The interiors are clean and simple, with quick service and courteous staff that treat every guest with genuine hospitality.
I tried their Gujarati thali, and it was a complete feast—freshly prepared, well-balanced, and packed with flavor. The dal was subtly spiced, the kadhi had just the right tang, and the variety of sabzis (vegetable dishes) showcased seasonal produce cooked to perfection. Their soft phulkas and piping-hot puris were constantly refilled with a smile, and the farsan (snack) and sweets added a festive touch to the meal.
What stood out most was the consistency in taste and the generosity of the servings—true hallmarks of a traditional Indian dining experience. Whether it’s a quick lunch break or a full family outing, GujRaj Veg manages to deliver on all fronts.

Read moreA multi-cuisine restaurant that specialises in Gujarati, Rajasthani, Punjabi and a mix of North Indian and Chinese is GujRaj, located near Periamet Chennai. To run a pure vegetarian outlet in the local haven for exclusive non-vegetarians is audacious. The ambience is so somber one had to strain to read the menu. With adequate seating, the service is moderate. The pricing is slightly dearer. The menu has a seperate breakfast listing and there are also a variety of limited thalis to choose from. The food is authentic and delicious, almost everything we ordered was gobsmacking good. The Lemon Coriander soup, Paneer Burji and Bhindi Pepper fry need special mention. The entire exploit went smooth but not without a few hiccups. For one, the charge an insane amount for packing your food - both, takeaways and your leftovers. Infact, there was a fall-out with the counter staff and a client in full view of the dining area. Secondly, another set of diners left in disdain because they were told "Limited Thali Meals" cannot be shared amongst a couple. One can understand if it was an unlimited thali. But for a limited one, it definitely defied logic. Also, the guy behind the billing counter seemed to be a novice, wanting constant help and support. A quick washdown of these lags and GujRaj is set...
Read moreIts in a narrow lane of george town and please do not expect any parking if you are travelling by a 4 wheeler. The ambience was ok but unfortunately their retaurant holds to max capacity of 35-40 pax where the kitchen inlet door is relatively close to about 5 tables. The food being cooked can be clearly felt and heard Food- ordered honey chilly potato, crispy corn, aloo parata, panner butter masala , mix veg fried rice and vegetable biriyani. Taste - i felt the chilly hiney potatoes were made from frozen potatoes as they were really hard , the crispy corn had a raw taste coming out of it, masala papad was papad with some onions and tomatoes just sprayed . The aloo parata was not made well as it was spice and the turmeric hits you first before you take a bite. So was the biriyani , as it was pre mixed punjent and dont expect it to be wet, like the authentic one. The fired rice had a lot of mushrooms instead of the spring onions and could not feel any chinese sauces or herbs in it. Overall- the service was poor , plates were not laid down systematically and cutlery had to be demanded after the food arrived. This is neither a guju or a marwari restaurant, simple name filled north indian fusion cusine. A...
