We reached Coonoor from Ooty via toy-train and looked for a decent restaurant nearby, saw the rating and reached to the place looking for some decent food. The place looked absolutely gorgeous view wise but we were too hungry to enjoy it. we scanned the place for someone but couldn't find anyone - no waiters in the sight. We started our treasure hunt to find someone who can help us with menu or at-least a glass of water. We found a girl carrying a tray of water, she said all the cooks have gone for prayer so we will have to wait since kitchen is closed for an hour (she didn't give us any water even though we asked for it). We were tourist with no mode of commute of our own so we decided to stay back. Meanwhile we kept our belonging on a table with utensils on it, went to washrooms, basically tried to kill the time. After about 45 mins, luckily the girl came back and said the cooks are back and we can order something. Happily we found a place and tried to sit - out of nowhere now the waiter came (i didn't know they had any) and told us all the tables are reserved and there is no place to sit, the only place where we can find food is cafe at the entrance which only has snacks and tea/coffee (of-course considering it was a cafe). We were furious to say the least, we had to leave the place ON OUR FOOT. we found an auto after walking for 25 mins on empty stomach who was nice enough to drop us to a nearby restaurant before our train back to Ooty. My question to the ill-managed place is - Why don't you have people who would attend the incoming guests? are they even trained to provide a glass of water to the guest? how incompetent is your entire staff if they cant even do this? When all of them saw us waiting for an hour for the food couldn't they serve lunch in different area (Read cafe) which is - to your information called customer service, probably a word no one has heard in your restaurant, lastly when all seats were reserved couldn't your staff let us know this in the beginning? It was a horrible horrible experience to visit your place and if I had the option to give you negative stars I would have...

My experience at 180mciver was nothing short of a disaster. From the moment I walked in, I was met with utter chaos and a complete lack of professionalism. The hostess was nowhere to be found, leaving us waiting at the entrance for what felt like an eternity. When we were finally acknowledged, we were rudely ushered to a cramped, dirty table that hadn't been properly cleaned.

The service was horrendous. The staff were blatantly uninterested in their jobs, ignoring us for long stretches of time. When our waiter finally graced us with his presence, he was condescending and dismissive. It was clear he couldn't care less about our dining experience. Requests for basic items like water refills or extra napkins were met with eye rolls and sighs, and we had to ask multiple times before anything was brought to the table.

The food was an absolute abomination. I ordered the house special, which was supposedly a gourmet dish, but what arrived was an unrecognizable mess. The meat was overcooked to the point of being inedible, the vegetables were wilted and flavorless, and the entire dish was drowning in a greasy, unappetizing sauce. My companion's meal was equally disastrous, with cold, undercooked pasta and a sauce that tasted like it came straight from a can.

As if the terrible service and abysmal food weren't enough, the restaurant itself was a nightmare. The noise level was deafening, making it impossible to hold a conversation. The lighting was harsh and unflattering, and the décor looked like it hadn't been updated in decades. To top it all off, the restroom was filthy and smelled foul, a clear sign that cleanliness is not a priority at 180mciver.

In all my years of dining out, I've never encountered such an all-around failure of a restaurant. 180mciver is a disgrace, and I wouldn't wish this experience on my worst enemy. Save yourself the misery and avoid this place...

My experience here was horrible. One of the worst experiences I had in a highly expensive restaurant. They had very few tables in the restaurant. When we went there there was already a family waiting there to get a table .It was a crowded weekend for Ooty-Coonoor.So,I still get the waiting part. Many people came and left, some because of the waiting time and others because of the way too expensive rates. We still waited patiently because we were in a full vacation mode so we were quite prepared for a hole in pocket. After waiting for 30 minutes, when I kept on requesting for a table.Manager said I have a table for you.He called us inside a hall beside the bathroom.Table had a very dirty cloth on it and chairs given to us were stained. The treatment looked such as if we have asked for a free meal. After waiting for 15 minutes there without food,we requested the manager to change our table as it was smelling there because of the proximity with loo. After this, they shifted the same table outside. We were really hungry so just kept on waiting for food.As if all this was not enough, food and service worked like icing on the cake.We ordered some chicken curry, where it looked as if one normal piece of chicken had been divided into few pcs.Gravy was just ok.We requested for onion slices which didn't come before we left the place.Overall a pathetic experience, the only not so good experience that I had in...

We didn't stay here but went for a relaxed family lunch. I must say that the person manning the restaurant had quite an attitude; he was haughty and felt as if he was doing us a favour when we just entered and also while taking the order' and this after we had booked a table in advance! Now to the food; the menu is quite extensive and the food served on our table looked quite delicious too but the taste of everything I ate that day was quite average to say the least. Nothing bad at all but nothing extraordinary either considering the high prices of each dish on their menu. The French Onion soup was anything but a French Onion Soup! It tasted like more of a Chinese hot and sour soup. The lasagne was the best thing I tasted that day. Both the pastas we ordered were pretty pedestrian too. The property is beautiful though. While finishing the food all I was thinking was to get over the meal quickly and chill in the outside sitting area while gazing at the beautiful view! Full marks for maintaining the property impeccably well.

La belle vie is located in the mciver hotel iis definitely recommend a visit here for anyone looking for good food in Coonoor. This place is located in the mcgiver hotel. It has a beautiful view of the city and lovely green lawn surrounding it, further adding to its beauty. Now, the food was great. I really enjoyed the shredded tenderloin sizzler and would definitely go back for it. We tried the French onion soup which was average but the Thai chilli potato was great. The vegetable augratin is a must try for cheese lovers. The Thai chilli prawn sizzler is also a good main course to try. The McGiver delight is a spicy lemon soda of sorts with a nice kick to it. The lemon tart was a little runny for my taste but the taste was delicious nonetheless. The only problem we faced was with the service. They were short staffed due to Diwali and the service issues were very evident. But they did a good job of taking care of most of the issues with time. I’d say it’s definitely worth a visit for the stunning view alone.

I was in Coonoor for my birthday recently so while searching for a nicer restaurant in the area, we changed upon La Belle Vie, located in 180 McIver, a gorgeous colonial estate turned boutique hotel. I was worried about it being crowded after some reviews but since we went for a late lunch, it was quite empty. Some of the cutlery & table cloths were a little shabby. But the views around totally make up for it. The waiter was quite attentive & polite. The menu, as the name suggests is mostly French & Continental, though there were some Indian options too. We ordered some non alcoholic drinks & I really liked that there wasn’t much sugar in them. The prices for food were definitely on the higher side, & you pretty tiny portion sizes. We had seafood which was all quite nice. It’s a good place to celebrate a special day or just enjoy the amazing Coonoor weather & views. Definitely recommend it even if just as an occasional indulgence.
