A seafood lover like me is very hard to impress. Especially since we cook seafood on a regular basis at home. But I must say I was completely head over heels with the food served at Mahesh Lunch Home.
It was a true delight. Located at khopat, the restaurant is on the first floor and don't let the narrow entrance fool you. It is very spacious and has a lot of tables neatly arranged in a fine dining manner.
We started the meal with soups followed by appetizers, salad, main course and dessert. We also tried some beverages.
Here is what we tried:
Seafood soup: a red coloured soup full of fish, shellfish, squid and so much more. It was light but flavourful.
Crab soup: lighter in colour this soup had a beautiful taste of crab along with its sweetness. The soup while not very spicy was made more in an Indo Chinese fashion. I highly recommend you try this.
Cheese corn tikki: absolutely delicious. This is recommended not just to the vegetarians but also to the non vegetarians. The cheese filling inside just oozes out as you bite into the hot delicious tikkis. This is highly recommended.
Paneer ghee roast: another starter which was a table pleaser. It was spicy and full of curry leaves. It reminded me of the southern coast of India. Absolute yum. I highly recommend it.
Fish koliwada: this starter pay a real tribute to all the Koli folks of Mumbai. The fish was Rawas and it was so fresh. It was flaky, bouncy and extremely juicy. I highly recommend this to all the fish lovers.
Squid butter garlic: it is not spicy but rather a little bit on the bland continental side. While it was good it was no match to the fish koliwada.
Crab ghassi: fragrant South Indian crab curry made with tomatoes coconut and lots of spices. This smooth curry with the succulent crab won all our hearts. I highly recommend you try this.
Fish Pulimunchi: a little spice is always appreciated and this curry it is just that. It is spicy flavoursome with the pieces of fish sparkling in all the spices. I just loved it too much. Highly recommend you try this as well.
Caramel custard: bouncy with a smooth texture. The excellent bitter caramel was just perfect. A great way to end our meal.
Sizzling brownie: a crowd pleaser. The brownie was topped with vanilla ice cream and the sizzle got the entire table smacking their lips.
Neer dosa: we had it with the curries and some of the starters. The neer dosa was thin and soft. It was really well made.
Malabar paratha: this paratha is close to my heart. I love its layers and I absolutely adore that it taste excellent with Indian food and curries.
A special mention to the ever popular-
Solkadi: it was nice and thick and not thin like it is usually served with other places. They had also added coriander making it a super flavour bomb.

Read moreI recently visited Mahesh Lunch Home, thane with high hopes and expectations, only to be sorely disappointed. The overall experience was subpar, and I regretted every moment I spent in that establishment. Allow me to share the numerous reasons why this restaurant left me feeling unsatisfied and frustrated.
To begin with, the absence of chilled tuborg beer was a major letdown. It's a basic expectation in any decent establishment that they provide their patrons with refreshing, cold beverages. But alas, at Mahesh Lunch Home, thane, this fundamental requirement was overlooked. This lack of attention to detail set the tone for the rest of my visit.
Moreover, the unavailability of rumali kadak roti and bhakri, both popular and delicious bread options, was another glaring disappointment. It's perplexing that a restaurant claiming to offer a diverse menu would fail to provide such staple items. I was left with limited options, which significantly diminished my dining experience.
One of the most infuriating aspects of my visit was the restaurant's policy on dips. Not only did they fail to provide any dips alongside their dishes, but they also had the audacity to charge extra for any additional dips. Nowhere in their menu was this mentioned, leaving me feeling deceived and ripped off. It is simply unacceptable to surprise customers with unexpected charges without any prior notice.
Additionally, the ambiance of the place was far from desirable. The noise level in the restaurant was incredibly high, making it difficult to hold a conversation or enjoy a peaceful meal. Adding to the lackluster atmosphere, there was no music playing whatsoever. A pleasant and soothing background song or instrumental would have at least helped mask the unwelcoming environment, but sadly, it was absent.
Overall, my experience at Mahesh Lunch Home, thane was nothing short of disappointing. From the absence of chilled tuborg beer and essential dishes like rumali kadak roti and bhakri to the lack of complimentary dips and the noisy atmosphere, this place failed to deliver on multiple fronts. I strongly advise anyone seeking a pleasant dining experience to steer clear of this establishment.
In conclusion, I did not enjoy my time at Mahesh Lunch Home, thane, and I consider it one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. It is a place that lacks attention to detail, fails to deliver on basic expectations, and ultimately leaves its customers feeling...
Read moreSeafood on mind then it has always been Mahesh lunch home for my family. They have opened their doors in Thane now and we couldn't resist from visiting this place. Been here yesterday for lunch with family and had incredibly good experience. The ambience is very well put and has comforting feel all over with all the comfy sofa seatings with few chairs. They do have big size tables which can accommodate big families. To start off with the f&b , In drinks we had deep blue sea and mojito in mocktails. Very well presented and made to perfection these mocktails were super refreshing and great in taste.
To begin with the food spread , we had bbq chicken salad to start our meal with something which is light yet yum. Stripes of grilled chicken breast sauteed in bbq sauce mixed with salad greens and cherry tomatoes. Lovely one!
In appetizers we had fish koliwada which was ravas deep fried in the traditional koliwada marinate having mildy spiced crispy coating. The fish was super juicy and fresh. Tried veg Crispy from Chinese section which was fantastic in terms of portion size and taste both. Served piping hot and the veggies were crisp coated and deep fried, later tossed in schezwan sauce. Also tried the chicken chakori kebab from their tandoor offerings and I must say it is one of the best kebab we have had off late. Tender and juicy chicken perfect cooked inside out went amazing with the mint chutney served along. We also tried the crab meat soup and Manchow soup which had good amount of crab meat and shredded chicken respectively.
Moving towards mains we had Crab Gassi and Chicken sukka alongside neer dosa and appam. They had totally nailed the mains. Perfectly spiced , generous portions served with all the necessary elements an ideal gassi curry and sukkha should have. Loved it to the fullest. Also had veg stew which was incredible and must have if you are looking for veg mains.
To sum up this beautiful meal we had sizzling brownie in dessert. The brownie was soft and fresh and had that perfect texture and taste you would expect. Along with the scoop of vanilla ice cream and sizzling chocolate sauce it was total bliss.
Mahesh lunch home completely ensures customer satisfaction and the hospitality delivered is just flawless. Captain Santosh Behera was kind enough to recommend some great dishes to us. Kudos to the team for making our dining experience a...
