This is the most automated restaurant I've ever seen. You place your orders on the large touch-screen kiosks. The waiter comes and serves whatever that you've ordered. This otherwise nice futuristic idea is deeply flawed here. I found myself laboring over such the huge screen of a kiosk for placing an order. A tablet could have sufficed. As an end-user, it is for the first time that the automation felt too much of a struggle.
In comparison to this particular experience, the classic way of looking at some overhead board behind the face-to-face ordering station and then placing the order with the waiter still feels the best. You're seeing all the exhaustive options right in front of you and then selecting one of those options. There could also be something recommended for the day. I missed all of that this time.
The service counter has been taken out of attention in this restaurant. You have to take a U-turn to the left after entering the restaurant. It is only then that you will discover the in-person ordering counter. That U-turn is simply too much of a struggle. The kiosks are not next to the ordering stations. They are the first thing you see upon entering the restaurant. That makes kiosks easy to reach. Sadly, it took only a few moments at the kiosk for me to realize that I am trapped in its tedious system. Digging into those sub-menus amongst sub-menus over a huge screen at the kiosk, with you stretching your hands in all the possible directions to reach out and tap over those particular options, is too much of a struggle to endure for someone who is looking out of a happy meal. I would have loved seeing a person there welcoming me with a smile or even a grin at that very location. I've been to many highly-rated restaurants but I've hardly ever seen that happening. There is a sea of difference in seeing a person behind a counter welcoming you and the one receiving you upon entering a restaurant. Probably, no restaurant could afford such a waiter. So, we now have these pillar-like kiosks instead. If these kiosks would have been next to the face-to-face ordering station, I feel I would have ignored these kiosks and talked to a person with an excuse for placing an order.
The purpose of automation is to save the time that gets wasted in waiting. Replacing a human for the bringing in the automation, just for the sake of it, is self-defeating. Longer the humans keep on staring at the screens for a non-socializing purpose, more do they lose their liveliness and turn into zombies. When you're placing an order over these kiosks, it feels like you are filling some sort of a form online. Nothing feels remotely high-tech in this. You are not riding on some hash-tagged trend of Twitter. The screen-time experiences that technology has brought with social networking tools like Twitter on one hand, and the quasi form-feeling experience at these kiosks on the other hand: both these experiences are 180° opposite in terms of psychological effects. These very kiosks might even see a long line given how they are placed right in front, defeating the whole purpose of automation. So, the form-filling at the kiosk is turning you into a zombie after having waited for your turn. That's a double jeopardy for choosing the kiosk instead of a human.
The kiosk had almost turned me into a zombie too! Thankfully, the cappuccino brought by the waitress awakened me back to...

Read moreMcDonald's, a global fast-food giant, offers a mixed bag of experiences. On the positive side, its extensive menu caters to diverse tastes, ensuring there's something for everyone. The iconic Big Mac and flavorful fries have achieved near-legendary status. The convenience and consistency across locations are undeniably appealing, making it a go-to choice for quick meals.
However, criticisms linger. The nutritional value of many menu items raises concerns, aligning with broader debates about fast food's impact on health. While efforts to introduce healthier options exist, the core of the menu remains calorically dense. Service speed can vary, with occasional lapses in accuracy.
From an environmental standpoint, McDonald's has taken strides in sustainability, committing to reduce its carbon footprint. Nevertheless, the industry's inherent challenges persist.
In conclusion, McDonald's remains a ubiquitous force, synonymous with fast food. Its strengths lie in accessibility, variety, and cultural ubiquity. The brand continues to adapt, striving to balance tradition with the demands of a more health-conscious and environmentally aware...
