For most of us who have been fortunate enough to try “Butter Chicken” or “Dal Makhani” from a place that it originated from or even close to that place know what the real flavors should be. It is sad that many places pass off an annoyingly sweet “Butter Chicken” and call it original and authentic least realizing how subjective and fluid these terms have become in the recent culinary world. Having moved to Chennai for almost 3 years now I have always craved some great varieties of these two above mentioned fares. I was extremely happy when my search ended at @bhangrachennai run by the most amicable and lovely individual @navtej_36 . If fabulous food defines @bhangrachennai then @navtej_36 would be the essence that builds both the food and the place that exudes extreme warmth and love that you would often find in your “Beeji” aka mother/grandmother’s hearth. The flavours are spot on and people who have grown up eating such food wouldn’t say otherwise. Today if Chennai boasts of great Punjabi/North Indian cuisine, it is undoubtedly @bhangrachennai where the owner @navtej_36 hosts each diner as he would at his own house. As we took every bite we could sense love, more love and much more love that kept getting added by the food that was served by the man himself - @navtej_36 ❤️ The 30 minutes drive and an empty stomach was completely worth it as we stuffed ourself so much that we had no other option than to roll into our bed! What could’ve been better than this Diwali meal? I bet nothing. Thank you @navtej_36 ❤️ and @bhangrachennai 🥳
In the frame:
Sher Thali comprising of Chicken Reshmi Kebab-Mutton Sheekh Kebab-Chicken Malai Tikka, Dal Makhani, Mutton Roganjosh, Butter Chicken, Paneer Lababdar, Egg Curry, Peas Pulao, Curd and Kheer. These were accompanied by Naan, Lachha Paratha and a special “Punjabi Pizza”- to know more about that you must visit @bhangrachennai and ask @navtej_36 about it who would happily regale you with his stories 😍
PS: Please do not ask me to choose my favorite fare as I am still unsure as to what was better- the food at @bhangrachennai or the way it was served by @navtej_36 ? I guess you...
Read moreThe best place in Chennai to have some authentic Punjabi food. Not only is it the best in terms of taste, but it is the best in terms of price as well. Super reasonable prices for some of the best dishes ever.
I had trouble finding the place and I ran into couple of others who were trying to find this place too. When you exit using the back entrance of mayajaal, it is to your left. It is in a corner so walk down towards the left and you'll see.
Food - Tasty papad is served as your orders are being prepared. Paneer kulcha is absolutely delicious. It's almost as thick as a pizza with paneer stuffed inside along with few cashews. It is quite filling. Garlic naan is heavenly. Must try if you dig garlic flavour and a must try even if you hate garlic. I dislike garlic but it tasted delicious. Dal makhani is very rich and creamy. I couldn't get enough of it. Do not miss it! Aloo paratha was served with moong dal raita. They also served flavoured and seasoned chillies that taste incredibly good when had with the bread. The Punjabi pickle is to die for. It's the best pickle I've tasted in my life. Aloo paratha + Punjabi pickle is a match made in heaven. And for deserts, we ordered both the moong dal halwa and kheer. The kheer was good but not great. It was very thick and filling. Can't be finished by 1 person. The moong dal halwa was fresh, hot and tasted very good. They served mint at the end.
Ambience - The decors were nice. It had memes and "keep calm" quotes centred about Punjabi food and culture.
Service - The staff are super courteous and they REALLY take care of you. I've never seen such caring and polite staff. The Owner of the restaurant is friendly and down to earth. I had a great time talking with him. He goes around each table asking them about the food and conversing with them.
Hats off to the Owner and staff for running this place and running this place so well. Absolutely loved spending time...
Read moreAfter a long time got to visit this place which was rated one of the best North Indian restaurants on the outskirts of Chennai.
To start with was their parking space which was pretty limited on the service lane of ECR. Though they have space just outside their place, it gets filled up quickly. Table booking is recommended but we were lucky to get a table for 10 in a jiffy.
For starters, we tried green salad, masala papad, and aloo tikka. All the dishes were presented well and the aloo too was soft and well cooked. Overall flavors were top notch but the starters lacked salt to balance the taste. Not a big deal but could have rubbed a little salt to the tikka. 👍
For the main course went on with garlic Naan, aloo paratha, kadai paneer, and pindi channa. Naan was strong from the flavors; with the soft kadai paneer, was both sour and spicy. Aloo paratha was pretty heavy but loaded with fragrance from the herbs; the channa was perfectly cooked and aided the paratha well. 😊 For rice, it was Rajma biryani and Dal kichdi. No complaints about them but rice in general makes anyone heavy. Dal was slurpy, gooey from the ghee but the biryani was just okay, hard to describe. 🤔
Flavored goli sodas to end the meal with were the best idea since it was easy on the tummy, perfect for the hot weather, and were dangling on the taste buds all day long. 👌
The service was very prompt and courteous but for obvious reasons, we didn't like the person who ran the place. A vlogger was interviewing him and there was a distinct difference in the extended service offered to them over others. I'm not against such service but the same to all would be appreciable. And, handling your subordinates with care and respect would do wonders rather than seeing them just...
