The Cafe Veranda is a bit of a climb up from the main road. Which can be a bit tedious, especially if you're carrying a huge travelling backpack like I was. I'd just landed in front of the hotel after a two-hout journey from Mukteshwar, and was in dire need of breakfast. The Verandah's breakfast gets over by 10.30, so a lot of breakfast dishes I love, like dosas and porridge, were ruled out. Luckily, they offered toast butter jam and poha. To go with it, I first ordered cappuccino and later on a masala chai. The toast butter jam was rather ordinary. For a fancy hotel, there was no brown bread either and butter was provided in tiny plastic Amul sachets! The beverages, both cappuccino and tea were disappointing. I'm from Bangalore, so I know what a cappuccino should taste like. This was watery and had a taste of filter coffee, nothing like a cappuccino should be. The masala chai I ordered had no masala in it! Luckily, the poha more than made up for it. It was the best poha I've had in Kumaon and was rich in vegetables and peanuts. Even though they missed giving a slice of lemon with it, it was still good, and pretty filling. The menu prices are on the whole reasonable, but carry an 18% GST, which is not visible when one orders. For an establishment carrying a GST rate of 18%, they really need to up their game in terms of the quality of f&b. On the positive side, the café is spacious, and has both indoor, outdoor and a covered terrace dining area. I chose the covered terrace with its plants and lake views, as it was a pleasant mid-morning. On chilly, sunny days the outdoor area with its faux comfy chairs and tables would be ideal. The tables and chairs in the covered terrace area are pretty, but a bit uncomfortable. My knees hit the projecting iron grills repeatedly and spilled a lot of coffee. On the way down, the lift wasn't functional , and I'd to walk down two floors. On a second visit, I'd to make some effort to get the oats porridge listed on the menu. It was still breakfast time, but I was initially told it wasn't available. On insisting, they made an effort, and rustled up a reall good bowl of porridge sprinkled with nuts. The tea, however, remained average. The americano I ordered tasted...

I had a wonderful experience at Verandah Cafe in Hotel Harshikhar. The staff’s hospitality is unmatched, from the parking guard to every team member, making us feel warmly welcomed from the moment we arrived. A special mention to Pyare Ji, who served us with such grace and kindness, ensuring that we had everything we needed for a delightful dining experience. The service was impeccable, and the ambiance added to the overall charm of the place. Additionally, the convenience of their own parking space made our visit even more comfortable. Read moreOne of amazingly located places where u can sit n enjoy the tranquil bhimtal lake however the food was way below expectations we ordered. Grilled fish after seeing the same in the lift and I must say it was horrible smelling badly n full of oil there were 4 of us and we had to return it to the chef just horrible however the hakka noodles and the chilly chicken was okay but still very average. One place which has such huge potential becos of the location however because of the food served a disaster. The rating of 4.8 is somehow very deceptive and it can't be more then 3.5. Hope they improve else it's such a waste of a...
