The Café Zero 1 is possibly the best café in Almora. The design is eclectic, the aesthetics are modern, the space is large and hygiene is of the highest standard. This kind of café is a total surprise in a remote place like Almora, high up in the hills. It even has an open kitchen. The menu is in the fast food category - with soups and salads, pastas and pizzas, sandwiches and burgers. The owners must get high marks for risk-taking and entrepreneurial drive. At the moment it seems to be paying off. The café's menu and ambience appeals to the local aspirational class. Even though it was a working day, there were young couples enjoying a date, and local biz people talking shop. I ordered a hand-beaten coffee, a vegetable thukpa and a vegetable pizza(in lieu of the mixed vegetable salad that was unavailable at that time). The coffee was a bit like hot chocolate. The vegetable thukpa was overspicy, perhaps made for local tastebuds. The vegetable pizza was just about fine. The service was warm, friendly and attentive. The best seats are at the two tables near the window overlooking the valley. I can just imagine this place on a cold or rainy day. It radiates a warmth and coziness and of course the food is eminently suitable for the local...
Read moreVisited few times now, a decent place (if not only) to spend some time with your friends and family in Almora. In terms of experience, it has shown consistency over past few years - which in my opinion is also the USP of this place.
To be honest, Almora and it's surroundings (Kasar specifically) have many eateries which offer you unique taste and experiences. But there are trade-offs - you need time to visit far away places, eateries that offer good food but 'dine-in' experience is horrible or there are take-away only places. What Cafe 01 does is to give you a good family restaurant vibes and relaxing atmosphere while being easily accessible.
Staff is polite and responsive. Seats are usually available, order time is average. Pricing is on average side. Parking is a bit tricky. Hazelnut flavored coffee is...
Read moreI've visited this café twice and had a mixed experience. Both times, I ordered the Chicken Manchow Soup, which was quite good initially, but during my second visit, the chicken was unexpectedly tough and hard to chew. I also tried their "hit menu item," the Cheese Chicken Fingers, which, unfortunately, didn't live up to the hype; it was overcooked, and the stuffing was very dry.
On the second day, we ordered nachos with salsa, but what we received was disappointing — it was just a plate of Bingo chips served with ketchup, priced at 120 INR! This felt overpriced and didn’t match the description of "nachos."
Overall, while the ambiance is nice and inviting, the food quality fell short, and I hope they work on improving it since it's essential for a good...
