It was our very first day in Mussoorie and were drawn to this place by the rave reviews on various platforms. Indeed all the hype is thoroughly justified.
We were seated upstairs on the top floor with views over the busy pedestrian thoroughfare below. The decor is modern, clean and inviting. The menu's graphic design was also very modern and contemporary, and more importantly clear and concise.
We requested filtered water (as we always endeavour to reduce plastic) which came in a generous pitcher bottle. We also ordered the classic fresh lime soda.
On to the banquet itself! We ordered a starter from the tandoori section and a mains from the extensive veggie section, with a couple of Roti to bulk it up. The textured soya meat substitute was truly delicious and came with a pickled garnish, which was not dissimilar to Korean style Kimchi. The main course was also divine, a smooth yet tangy cauliflower curry, perfectly balanced flavours.
No doubt we look forward to revisiting Urban Turban (kudos and top marks for the choice of name, by the way) very soon.
#2 visit:
We were so pleased with our first visit to Urban Turban that it was inevitable that a second visit was due. Once again it was confirmed that this establishment is head and shoulders above its competitors.
The tandoori veggie delight mo:mos were perhaps the most original culinary creativity we have tried since arriving in India three months ago. Outstanding flavours. On our first visit we had already spotted a chickpea based main course and so on our second visit we were sure to order it. We were not disappointed in the least, the rich sauce featured (once again) an original pomegranate infused sweetness that really brought the dish to life.

Read moreOne place that saved the debacle of our Mussorie trip. Our mistake that we planned our visit to “queen of hills” over the long weekend of Christmas in 2021. It was super duper crowded and we just hated it there.
And then when we were looking for a place to eat, we simply saw this one and decided to have our dinner here - without much expectations. We were that dejected. But this place really brought back our spirits.
Food here is really great. We had ordered dal makhni and paneer lababdar with nan. Everything was superb. Especially dal makhni which had the authentic taste. The best we had had in a while.
Please do visit the place for your meal/s when in Mussorie....
Read moreIt is located on 1st floor, on Mall road. It is a bar-cum-restaurant. I visited it in October 2023, and had Chicken Changezi, which neither looked like changezi, nor tasted like it. But it was decent enough in taste(almost like tawa chicken). Tandoori rotis were good, not hard. But Lachcha paratha, was very small and thin. Ideally 1 lachcha paratha is equal to 2 rotis, but the lachcha paratha here was just like tandoori roti. So dont spend 65-70 Rs on it, instead spend Rs 25-30 on Tandoori Roti. My total came to about Rs. 630 for 2 people.
Place was clean, hygeinic, service was good. It also had a...
