I am born and brought up in Dehradun. This dhaba didn't exist when I left Doon for job. I returned to Doon after 10 years last week. Went to various old places to eat my fav stuff like chole bhature and momos etc. Surfing through google, Uss da dhaba seemed a great new place to try food. It was quite crowded, and had to wait a bit to get seated. Crowded place is generally a good sign that the taste is good. We ordered a special Rajma Chawal and a Kadhi Chawal. Reasonable quantity of rice with Rajma and Kadhi topped on them arrived. Looking at the Kadhi chawal I got a bit confused because there was no pakora in the kadhi. I checked with the server, if they forgot to add pakoras in my plate. He pointed his finger at one lonely grape sized lump (no more than the grape size) lying on the side of my plate obscured by little rice. That, as per him was the pakora. I was quite amused and asked him if this is what they give in the special kadhi chawal plate? He smiled and nodded in affirmative. Well okay, I thought maybe the taste of the kadhi would compensate for the miserly pakora. I couldn't taste anything in the kadhi chawal. In hope that maybe Rajma chawal would be better, I kept the Kadhi chawal aside and dig in to Rajma chawal. Still no taste. I panicked that I may have contacted covid and lost my sense of taste and smell. We finished whatever it was and came out of the dhaba. To be frank, I have never eaten such pathetic kadhi chawal and Rajma chawal. I still wonder what makes people praise this miserly tasteless outlet. Well maybe it is for people who are very hungry but don't want to spend much on food. And don't give a hoot about the taste of what they put in...

There are several restaurants with the name 'Uss Da Dhaba" in Dehradun. This one is located at 3, Court Road, Opposite the District Court and about 1km from Dehradun Railway Station. There is another one (similar name) just a few shops to it's right, which looks shabby. The location is central, however, during the day it's jam-packed, also very crowded after 8 pm near dinner time. Parking is non-existent, except for a little road side parking for 5 to 6 bikes opposite the restaurant. There is limited seating and the tables and benches are a bit cramped. The interior is clean and recently renovated.
I ordered the Patiala Thali, which costed Rs. 169 and the order arrived within 5 minutes. The thali contained veg biryani, kadi pakora, chole, kadai paneer, palak kofta, raita, kheer, some salad along with 1 paneer kulcha and one aloo kulcha. The kulchas were like stuffed tandoori rotis. Filling enough for one person, but on the downside they don't offer any refills. Chole & Kadi was very less in quantity, the kadai paneer had just one cold piece of paneer. The kofta was not great at all. The kulchas were the best item. Food was average in taste, nominal in price, but not exceptionally tasty. This is a pure vegetarian joint, so non-vegetarian foodies - prepare to be...
Read moreQuality of food is good, food is cooked in refined oil & cooked hygienically. Uss Da Dhaba provides different varieties of dal & subji. It also provides lassi and kheer. This Dhaba provides food packaging service.. Price of dal & subji is quite reasonable i.e. near Rs. 100. For packing of food the rates are different, it provides half and full size of various varieties of dal, subji & rice kheer. Dhaba also provides kulchas for breakfast. With so much goodness there is one negative point also with this Dhaba i.e. the Dhaba cooks it's Roti, Kulcha, Parantha & all that stuff associated with Indian Breads made with "maida" which is unhealthy. How can someone even think of eating roti made up of "maida"? One more thing that the chef puts refined oil on rotis and kulchas instead of butter and ghee. This is the reason that why I have rated this Dhaba with four stars. I recommend eating Rajma Chawal, Rice with Dal Makhni if somebody wants to dine in. If somebody we wants packaging of food for home I will recommend Pulaw with different varieties of dal & subji but not roti, kulcha, naan or stuffed parantha. There are total four chains of this Dhabha in Dehradun, i.e. Uss Da Dhaba, Uss Da Dhabha Xpress, Twadha Dhaba &...
