Stayed here for 2 nights - 18/05/18 - 20/05/18 Room #316
Rooms - comfortable with all amenities if you find something missing i'm sure they are available on call and the housekeeping staff is courteous enough to address them asap.
Roadside rooms are little small and so are the washrooms which actually make the entrance and exit uncomfortable. So if you are obese (overweight) please better upgrade to a superior category or try the so called farm view rooms. Air conditioning was just OK as even after running it at 10deg i didn't feel the actual chill in these 2 days.
Washbasin and tap in the sink area are not properly designed you cannt place you hands below the tap and if you try to - hands get in contact with the basin form below. Hot and cold water supply was available 24*7.
Charging plugs in the room are not that easy to manage with.
Cracks were seen on the roofs and the walls so maintenance department is too weak i guess.
Restaurant: rates are competitive (4), quality of food again good (3.5), Variety is very less. Asked for kaddi pakoda on phone was committed for the availability for as soon as i ordered after reaching the restaurant i was made to wait almost 25 - 30min for the food and later the service guy came smiling and said "sir kaddi no nai ho payegi" i was like what the duck. Anyways people with me were a little more relaxed and accommodating and went on with the other dishes served to us. even after that the service at the restaurant is TOO LOUSY. I could just find 3 staff at a time to serve the entire area and to my surprise during our lunch on 19.05 there wasn't even one available as he was time and again going in - out from the kitchen area as a result had to get up on my own to fetch a bowl.
So order food atleast 30 min prior of actual time u wana start eating it because they will take long to serve and even after serving something will be missing as on same 19.05 dinner some snacks were served after dinner was almost over.
Overall you may stay there its a good cheap option as compared to other 4* properties but dont desire for much. You paid a little less so desire accordingly (i forgot that). Just dont run after the stars consider how much you shed out...
Read more"There's a shawarma joint about two blocks from here. I don't know what it is, but I wanna try it." ―Iron Man. Ever had that feeling, where tony stark talks about shwarma in the first avenger movie and you start craving for it? Well, same. Dehradun is my hometown, and shawarmas here are very rare. Luckily, the 'new' doon darbar has alot to offer. For those of you who have no idea what it is, Shawarma is a Levantine meat preparation, where lamb, or chicken is placed on a spit and may be grilled for as long as a day. Shavings are cut off the block of meat for serving, and the remainder of the block of meat is kept heated on the rotating spit. Shawarma is usually eaten with pita bread. But for those of you have tried shawarma in other cities, like Delhi, or Mumbai, then donot expect it to be the same. I'm not saying its not tasty, it's good but it could be a bit better. The pita bread is too thick, and because of that it's hard to enjoy the flavours. Moving on, I also had their chicken burger which is a must have. The chicken burger is actually a panini sandwich which is about 6 inches long, and tastes pretty good. I also had 'seekh kebabs' which were so fantastic that I had to place another order for a takeout.
Moving onto the maincourse, I had Chicken Malai Tikka ; Mutton Stew ; Chicken Afghani ; The quantity was generous, and the it was just prefect, and not overcooked. Of course you have to bear with alot of oil, but then it's a mughlai cuisine, and there's not much that can be done about it. For desert, I was recommended 'firni', a rice pudding served in a terracotta bowl, garnished with dry fruits. On a scale of 1-10, I would rate it an 8.
The interior had a typical purani dilli vibe to it and was pretty mediocre, unless you're expecting fancy furniture, artwork and dim lightning; it's clean and somewhat 'crowded' but it gets the job done. The service was good, and the waiting time was reasonable.
Overall, I would rate my experience at Doon Darbar a 7/10; if you don't want to spend too much, and want to eat till you're full then this is the place for you. It's one of the good mughlai...
Read moreWe had booked a club room through MakeMyTrip which we thought was on a great deal. We called the hotel in the morning to check if the booking was confirmed. They confirmed our stay. We booked a cab from Mussoorie and reached the place. At around 11:30 AM. After reaching here the guy in the front desk (who wears a never smily face) told us he has cancelled the booking because there was no such category of rooms available and asked us to book a different catagory room offline by paying huge amount. And he told it was a technical error for which no one is responsible (seriously??). He told he tried calling us but we were unreachable. It was a lie as we had called the hotel around the same time he claimed he called us and on our call they confirmed the booking.
It was horrible....just horrible. It was the worst experience in our travel/booking history. Who does that? Are you guys really in hospitality industry?
We lost many hours in the lobby searching for a different hotel. Thankfully, MakeMyTrip representive came to our rescue and helped us in getting a room in a different hotel. They even told us, they were not informed about the cancellation of the booking till that point and had we not informed them they would be clueless about the cancellation.
Day wasted because of the horrible hotel, horrible place, horrible people working here and horrible policies of cancelling booking at the last moment after confirming the booking and without informing the guests hoping they would come and book a room offline by charging huge money.
Disgusting experience in the hotel. Do not book. You will regret and waste your time after reaching here. We will avoid this chain of hotels for sure...
