On the night of the 24th, I went out with my friends, looking forward to a pleasant dining experience. Unfortunately, what we encountered at the restaurant left much to be desired.
I ordered chicken biryani, priced at 150/-. To my dismay, it was nothing short of a letdown. The biryani seemed to have been prepared well before our arrival—perhaps around noon—because it lacked freshness and flavor. The potatoes in the dish were bland and tasteless, making the entire meal feel like a wasted opportunity.
The experience was further marred by the service. The cashier seemed to struggle with basic tasks and displayed a lack of professionalism. When I went to settle the bill, he asked me if I was the one at table 3 who had ordered three lime sodas—something I hadn’t ordered at all. This confusion caused me to pay for something I didn’t receive, and I couldn’t help but wonder how a cashier at such a well-known restaurant could be so disorganized.
Our seating arrangements also left much to be desired. I was seated at table 9 by the window, and I couldn’t help but notice that water was continuously dripping from the upper cabinet above us. It was clear that the maintenance of the restaurant wasn’t up to standard, especially given the high prices they charge for their food. For example, while other restaurants commonly serve chili chicken with 8 pieces for around 250/-, this restaurant only offered 6 pieces for the same price. This seemed like an unfair deal, adding to my growing frustration.
Overall, the ambiance of the restaurant was nice, which gave me hope for a good meal, but that alone doesn't make a restaurant truly great. The series of disappointments I faced during my visit left me with a rather bad experience, and I walked away feeling...
Read moreDigha for food is really cheap because of very high competition and all year tourist visits. So in most of the restaurants you can get very good Bengali dishes, specially fish & chicken.
Bhorpet is probably the worst you can find for the price in entire Digha. Waiters are always in hurry to sell you more and service felt very pathetic.
Veg Thali @ Rs.170 (1/5) Usually in Digha for Rs.150-170 you can get Fish & Chicken Thali. Here you only get Veg Thali for Rs.170 and add chicken for extra Rs.150. So finally the Thali comes for Rs.320 more than double compared to other restaurants. Surprisingly in their thali if you repeat something then extra is charged.
The thali had fine long grain rice, plain dal, alo kopi curry, matar paneer, chatney, sour curd and thats all. I've never seen Bengali Thali being served with sour curd.
Dal was very ordinary, there was too much garam masala in aloo kopi, matar paneer was good but usually its not served in bengali thali, also the quantity was very low.
There was nothing to like about this thali only except plain rice. Even if you ask for more rice then its chargeable at Rs.35. I don't know why they call it Bengali thali.
Chicken Curry @ Rs.150 (1/5) There was only 3 pieces of chicken in it mostly bone. Gravy felt like south Indian curry. No potato in bengali chicken curry nor it had the spices to match its flavours.
Overall very bad experience as whatever the waiter suggested as Authentic Bengali Thali it was no where close to that. Pricing is very unrealistic for what they serve and service was also very pathetic when I complaint about their food. Just avoid this place on a...
Read more⭐ 0/5 – The Great Digha Scam Thali
This isn’t a restaurant. It’s a daylight robbery with plates.
First scam: they’ve shifted the restaurant into their resort and now hide behind the resort’s 4.3⭐ rating while the actual restaurant limps at 3.9⭐. That’s like selling expired chips using a Ferrari ad.
Second scam: ₹230 for a veg thali that could barely feed a toddler’s toy kitchen. What did we get?
One spoon of aloo posto (blink and you’ll miss it) One spoon of shukto (homeopathic dosage) Two spoons of dal (strategically in thimble-sized bowls)
And then comes the masterpiece — we ordered “extra dal.” Guess what? They served it in a bucket so tiny that my spoon looked like King Kong inside it. (See photos before you think I’m exaggerating).
I still ended up eating dry rice after paying extra. Imagine billing customers more and still starving them. Bravo. 👏
Every table around us looked equally betrayed — kids staring at empty plates, tourists realising they’ve been scammed harder than buying a ₹10 water bottle at an airport.
The business model is simple: Don’t let anyone escape with a bill under ₹500, no matter if they leave hungry. Food is an accessory here — the scam is the main course.
⚠️ Dear fellow traveler's: If you want to waste money, just donate it to charity instead of funding this circus. At least you’ll get blessings instead of indigestion.
Digha has honest eateries with real food and real value. Don’t let this place...
