Kinkin Restaurant - TNHB Road, Sholinganallur:
A Disappointing Thai Experience
Rating: 1 out of 5 stars
Kinkin Restaurant promised an authentic Thai experience, but unfortunately, it failed to deliver on almost every level. Despite the high prices, the food was underwhelming, the service was poor, and the overall experience was incredibly disappointing.
Food: We ordered a variety of dishes to get a good sense of the menu. The Tom Yum soup and Tom Yum fried rice with prawns were merely okay, lacking the vibrant flavors we expected. The Pad Thai noodles were the only dish we found enjoyable and edible. However, the Red Curry Beef Thali was a complete letdown. The curry was bland, the portion was insufficient for the accompanying Thai rice, and the combination was simply unappetizing. To make matters worse, we ordered garlic fried prawns, but were served chicken instead. When we pointed out the mistake, the server shockingly told us that a replacement would "affect his pay." Out of sympathy, we ate the chicken, which was also poorly prepared.
Service: The service was slow and inattentive. We had to wait an hour for our food, and the staff seemed indifferent to our concerns about the incorrect order. The server's comment about the replacement affecting his pay was unprofessional and unacceptable.
Overall: Our experience at Kinkin Restaurant was a complete waste of time and money. The food was overpriced and lacked authentic Thai flavors. The service was poor, and the incorrect order incident left a sour taste. We would not recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a satisfying Thai meal.
Recommendations: Kinkin Restaurant needs to significantly improve its food quality to justify its high prices. The restaurant should ensure that orders are prepared correctly and address customer concerns promptly and professionally. The staff needs to be trained to provide better customer service.
We hope that Kinkin Restaurant takes these points seriously and works towards providing a better dining experience for...
Read moreKinkin has been on my list ever since they were located in Akkarai! Now on the TNHB Road (off the ECR-OMR Link Road), the opportunity presented itself when we were driving by in a super hungry state 😂
Interiors: Love the glass and wood decor with an exposed brick wall finish that gives it a homey feel. Only around 10 tables so might be cramped when full. Thankfully, we went for an early dinner so it was rather empty at 7 pm on Sunday.
Food: We started with the Thai Fried Chicken. And will never order KFC again! Super crispy, and delicious even with plain ketchup.
The Chicken Thai Cakes came with a brilliant and balanced cucumber and onion relish that sort of upstaged the main dish tbh 😂 We plan to try the fish cakes next time around.
Never ever thought of putting prawn in an omelet but now that I’ve had it, wondering why I haven’t done it before. Light and flavourful, with generous amounts of prawn.
For mains, we shared a Thai steamed rice with Beef Massaman Curry. First time trying it and I was blown away by the flavours. No pics because I forgot. Anyway, both were fully wiped out.
The Taiwanese Bubble Tea was light and delicious and chock full of boba. Since there’s no dessert on the menu, we also took one to go.
The service by Kala was excellent. Really appreciated the fact that all the ingredients were super fresh and we got our food pretty quickly. We ordered a little more than usual but it worked out to about Rs 1000 per person. Portion sizes are great for sharing. Would love to see some pork dishes on...
Read moreWe visited Kinkin Restaurant for an unplanned family dinner, and despite it being relatively empty when we arrived, it filled up quickly, with a pleasant number of people waiting for their turn as we finished our meal.
We started with the Tom Yum Soup, which was simply delicious. The prawns were fresh and cooked perfectly, making this dish a standout. The Fried Egg Salad was decent, though nothing extraordinary. For the main course, we opted for the Yellow Curry with Jasmine Rice and Pad Thai with Egg. Both dishes were well-portioned, and the flavors were spot-on. The curry was creamy and fragrant, while the Pad Thai had just the right balance of sweetness and tang.
To finish, we had a rich Chocolate Cake and refreshing Boba Tea, which was a satisfying end to a great meal.
The ambiance was decent, although some remodeling was going on at the time, which didn’t take away from the overall experience. The staff was polite, and service was smooth throughout the evening. Another plus point was the ample parking space available, which is always appreciated in a busy city like Chennai.
The prices are slightly on the higher side, but for the quality of food and experience, it’s definitely worth it.
Kinkin is a great spot for a family dinner with fresh flavors and satisfying portions. If you’re a fan of Asian cuisine, it’s a solid option in Chennai, even if the prices are...
