Hot Sugar Cafe at Bedugul Hills — Restaurant in Bali

I came here because of the good reviews and proximity to my accommodations. First thing I notice when I arrived were the flies. Lots and lots of flies. Some locals were hanging out there and it seemed they weren’t bothered by the infestation of flies at there table. I was in shock and denial, thinking it was just the norm around here. I was hesitate to stay but wanted to support small business and give it a try. I found a table that had the least amount of flies. When our food was served, flies bombarded us and they were relentless. We tried to swipe them away but didn’t want to draw attention. Instead I just focus on eating my meal as quickly as possible. I just made sure no flies landed on my meal. I used my pinky finger to swipe at them. I gulped my drink down in an instant. I immediately headed over to pay. The girls working there were looking and laughing, but not sure if it was at me and what I just went through. Not sure what the deal was with the infestation of flies. Don’t know if it’s normal in this area or not. But I usually associate fly infestation with raw decaying meat. Traveled all the way to Bedugul with the intention of enjoying a peaceful atmosphere and a beautiful view. My wife and I decided to visit this café because it looked nice on Instagram, and we thought it would be a good place to relax. From the pictures, it seemed like a cozy spot to unwind and enjoy the cool weather.

However, when we arrived, the reality was quite different. The place was not well-maintained and felt dirty, which was disappointing. Instead of the calm and serene environment we were expecting, the atmosphere was noisy and chaotic. There was loud construction noise coming from the back, like someone was cutting materials for a renovation project.

The noise completely ruined the experience, making it impossible to enjoy our time there. It was frustrating because we had traveled quite a distance hoping for a relaxing moment, but instead, we were met with an uncomfortable and unpleasant setting. Very nice staff and beautiful place with lake view. We came here only for sweat things for breakfast. Out of the 5 sweet dishes on the menu only one was available : fried bananas... we ended up ordering noodles and a chicken sandwich. Very simple dressing and not so good. The sandwich contained a ridiculous amount of chicken. But that's not the worse part : you get invaded by flies very quickly and when the food arrived... it was a disaster. We had like 50 flies on us all the time and we spent the 10 min trying to eat as fast as possible and slap our bodies to chase them away. So annoying.
