Warung Makan & Catering "Wayan" Candikuning — Restaurant in Bali

After reading all of the positive reviews on Google, we decided to make a stop here during our trip back from the lake. The location is not on the main road, but rather tucked away in someone's house. We are abit confused.

We ordered the mujair menyatnyat and fish soup, expecting the food to be amazing based on the rave reviews we read. We also appreciated the owner's friendly demeanor.

Unfortunately, our experience at the restaurant was not as great as others have described. The fish soup was bland with little fish in it. Even when we tried to mix it with some rice, it did not improve the taste. We had to ask the staff to add more salt to the soup just to add some flavor to it. The fish portions were decent, but the herbs did not bring out the expected flavor.

It's disappointing that our experience did not live up to our expectations, especially since the restaurant has received so many positive reviews. While we appreciated the owner's friendly attitude, the blandness of the food left us feeling unsatisfied.

I was skeptical that this place was deserving of 5 stars, but I was wrong. We walked up a quiet road, past villas, wondering if we were headed in the right direction (we were). We arrived and were ushered upstairs to the restaurant area. The owner was clearly delighted to see us.

We had an incredible meal, one of our best in Bali (yes, really). The menu is not huge, but each dish we had was flavored well and unique. My favorite was chicken with a sweet soy sauce - it honestly was better than it sounds. The fries are some of the best I've ever had and actually tasted like potatoes.

We ate other places during our 3 days in Bedugul. This is the easy winner. We would have eaten here all 3 nights, had we gone there the first night.

We went to eat at this warung after visiting the Pura Ulun Danu Bratan temple. The restaurant was empty, we were the only customers, unlike the restaurants inside the temple. The owner was very kind and smiling. We ordered two dishes, two juices, and a dessert. Everything was delicious, well presented, and generous in portion. We had great conversations with the owner. The view from the restaurant is amazing. The tranquility is incredible. The value for money is excellent! 140k for two people for the mentioned order. The owner told us that everything is homemade, and there are several options to choose from, including different spice levels!
