We booked @NormanBali for 4 days , to help us and be our privat tour guide. He is all smiles and we were impressed since he spoke both Swedish and Danish. But do not let a beautiful smile and hearing your mother tongue trick you into this restaurant!
Our trusted guide hired to take care of us, recomended this more expensive ”à la carte” restaurant by the sea, and said they served grilled freshly caught fish and seafood grilled to perfection.
The owner greated us warmly and said that he was a good friend of @Normans. He only offered us a set 8 course menue but said that he had given us a special discount as we were there as Normans clients. The price of 200 000 RP per person was hefty. The place did not match the 5 star resort where we had payed simular prices in exclusive settings with top service. We decided not to judge the book by its cover.
The setting was NOT as advertised by Norman! It was a larger simple leen to patio with many large tables but no guests. An extension to a farmhouse with paultry set on a lawn next to a busy road, the view was NOT the sea, it was a shed with junk and a pile of coconut residue.
The farms cats and dogs ran around us and got into a wild fight under the table so they got my daughters legs caught between them and scared us so much that we screamed out loud and shook the entire table and everything on it. 200 000 / person menue ex 15% tax.
Where our guide Norman said we were going to eat sounded more like @warungSegara which is by the sea. But instead he took us to this cheap shack and scammed us with the help of the owner with a specially arranged overprised menue in a lokation that does not correspong with the pictures shared on...
Read moreAs a tourist brought by a taxi you have 2 choices a fish or chicken dish that include a bunch of side dishes (you cant order just a few). You get a “good” variety of side dishes but it was too much for us, we even said this before ordering yet where told “its fine, everyone fishes their meals”. We barley finished half of our plate. Ontop of that the food is outrageously expensive, 200 k per person without drinks, tax and service. Some other customers got dishes we didn’t even have on our menu.
It would have been fine if the quality reflected this price but this was however not the case. I was picking out the bones in the chicken from the chicken soup. The chicken on the main dish was completely tasteless and hard to cut through same goes for the sate but the sauce hid this fact. The fish was over baked, salty and tasteless. Calamari and prawns remained untouched.
The service also horrendous , the servers were friendly but didn’t interact much with us. The owner was pushy towards customers and plain out rude towards his own staff and commanding them around infront of customers. He also spent most of the lunch on his phone in a place visable for customers. After paying and walking past him we didn’t even receive a goodbye or anything.
Was the worst and most expensive meal we have...
Read moreOur driver recommended this place for us. We were the only guests, even though it was dinner time.
Nevertheless, after serving beer, they took over 30 minutes to deliver the rest of the drinks and after that, another 20 minutes for the food. Considering they only have 2 set meals (4 if you add the calamari), the service is friendly, but way too slow.
You will be served previously frozen fish and not the delicious Ikan Bakar some people posted here. The fruit platter consisted of three watermelon slices.
I believe the tourists will be served different dishes than the locals, resulting in better reviews.
Unfortunately I let my guard down this time and fell for this tourist trap. Always take suggestions from your driver with a grain of salt and if a restaurant does not have any guests during dinner time, take it as a hint.
The view of the sea is great, but doesn't justify the price of 150k for the bad food. On top of that, they charge an...
