I have positives and negatives about this one.! My husband and i just moved back to bali and was hoping this could be a weekly local for us . We both had steak i had the tenderloin , medium rare . Being a tall piece of meat it wasnt cooked properly and was toatally rare inside but i guess thats in the cooking and they just grill it without putting it in the oven , i sent it back after i ate the outside so they could cook it in the middle , it was still rare inside ! Note to myself , get the flat sirloin next time , easier for them to cook . The veggies and hand-made chips were great ! Mushroom sauce really had no mushrooms in it, but just ok !standard gravox recipe , not mushrooms really . My husbands sirloin was great , cooked perfectly as were the veggies and chips he had . We ordered the spicy calamari as entree , which all came together , don't you hate that ! No spice at all . Just your standard frozen calamari you buy in the frozen section of a supermarket. The calamari was not like in the pictures on the website nor on instagram ! Yes, i studied this place before we went, lol. It looks amazing in the pics but is totally different when ordered . Looks like onion rings , It's just basic . The staff were lovely , i think the manager could be a bit more customer friendly and go and check on people that visit this place , say thankyou i hope you had a good meal , hope to see you again , you know , customer service stuff that I'm used to managers doing . Then there's two dogs that run in and out of the bar and nudge you in the back when you're eating , none of the staff bother about this . Oh, i forget the smashed guy that was causing a scene jumping through the windows , yelling whatever . That was interesting 🙂 Oh , i forgot , on website it says , all prices include tax , which i thought was great , i dont like going to ++ places . But next to it , it says , our staff love a tip . I do like to tip but don't like to be forced into a tip , i tip when it's worthy, unfortunately the tip is added on 8% of your bill , that took me by surprise ! So yeah maybe more negatives than positive . Oh...
Read moreWent there to watch the rugby with some friends and a baby. Extensive selection of beers and wines. It's one of those bars/pubs that would probably have a better vibe at night as, during the day, up close, in the cold hard light, you get a sense of something lurking behind the scenes.. While we worked up a head of steam on the bintangs, the baby was showing signs of hunger. So we thought we'd order something off of the extensive English-pub fare menu. Suspicious by its comprehensive nature, the alarm bells should have clanged loud with claims they have a choice of roasts - including turkey, beef, chicken, pork, possibly turducken - all ready and waiting for you to tick up an order. This, on top of the other 4639 menus items on offer. Looking around the place, with a smattering of patrons at best, one would be naively optimistic to imagine a team of chefs out the back lovingly carving up a succulent turkey freshly roasted that day on a made to order basis. Anyway, we opted for the margarita pizza, straight up, as simple as you can get. The pizza came out in due course, the baby's eyes locked on instantly, toothy gums sharpening. Upon lifting a piece off the dish we recoiled in shock upon sight of the pizza bottom! Fungal spore-laden splotches riddling the base! The horror! Sent it back to the dank galley whence it came and they had the gall to then call an extra bowl of fries compensation for the spore-ridden petri dish masquerading as a pizza. I suspect that pizza was made in Napoli, not long after Vespucci was a lad, and stowed away on a ship, had a career as a deckhand on a bark and landed in Bali with the first fleet of Dutch seamen. Upon its tragic death due to some tropical disease, the pizza was frozen cryogenically in time until we unsuspecting patrons came along and thawed him from his freeze. All that said, the beer was nice and cold and I can vouch for the crisps on the bar. The staff seemed enthusiastic...
Read moreFor the last year I have been ordering the vegetarian roast dinner from the Plumbers Arms every single Sunday. Last week my partner and I visited the Plumbers for our usual vegetarian roast. FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 1 YEAR of ordering, the staff told us the gravy CONTAINED BEEF and would that be ok to add to the vegetarian roast?! (no of course not! vegetarians don't eat ANY meat!) We then asked them if they had vegetarian gravy to which they responded that they have NEVER USED vegetarian gravy only beef for their roast dinners!!! This whole time i have been eating beef gravy with my vegetarian roast dinner!! Surely if you are providing a vegetarian roast dinner option you should be providing vegetable gravy too? Why would a vegetarian order a vegetable roast and eat it with beef gravy?!
I really like the Plumbers arms because the other food is great and the staff are always friendly but I am SO disappointed. I really didn't want to give a bad review but i think it's important that other vegetarians are aware that their vegetarian roast isn't really vegetarian if they are serving it with beef gravy. I'm disappointed because i had recommended the plumbers arms to many other vegetarian friends who have now also eaten meat gravy without being aware which can be very upsetting if you have been a vegetarian for many years.
I will still continue to eat at Plumbers arms but i'm sad to know i can no longer eat the roast as it was of my favourites 😞Please do better...
