A very warm and welcoming family. They were all so patient and kind to share details of their home life, traditions, religion and recipes. My husband and I loved that they sent us home with the recipes we made today — a memory and skill we’ll cherish for our lifetime. Overall, the dishes we cooked were very tasty and easy. The reason for the 4 stars is because our group was large (about 13 students), which ended up causing a few delays and impersonal moments. because there were so many people, the instructors couldn’t be very hands on with you. It also meant that they split up our group to do the different steps in the cooking process — so not everyone got to experience every step of the process. Also, we had to wait over an hour for every one to arrive at the house, which didn’t feel so bad because we were in good company, but we would of preferred to use that hour for something else on our long list of things to do in Ubud. Once everyone arrived we were running late so the cooking felt a little rushed, so we didn’t really absorb the new skills — we more just enjoyed the experience and company. We would recommend it — it’s certainly priced well. But true chefs/cooks should look for a more one-on-one class. Final...
Read moreWe had such a great experience at this cooking class! I learned another delicious Indonesian dish that I’ll definitely be making again. My partner and I enjoyed it a lot especially since we’re both vegetarians and love discovering new vegetarian recipes. We also got lucky because there were only four of us in the class, so it wasn’t crowded at all. We were glad to meet the other couple and share the experience together. Gus was very accommodating and thoughtful. Because of the heavy Ubud traffic, we decided to book a Gojek to the warung and back to our hotel, and Gus kindly covered the ride for us. It wasn’t a problem at all, we even enjoyed the drive. I can see why some reviews mention late pick-ups, but honestly the traffic in Ubud is really challenging. My tip: if you want to join his class, stay somewhere nearby instead of in the Ubud center. Highly recommend...
Read moreWhat a wonderful cooking experience! As I didn't book the morning cooking class (where you go to the market), we went to the rice fields instead and I learned a lot about the rice harvesting. Back at the warung, we prepared the paste and all the ingredients for a soup, the main dishes (e.g. for satay, curry, tempeh, Gado Gado) and a desert and started cooking by the stove and over the fire. The cooking was a lot of fun because the whole family is just so sweet, kind and welcoming that it felt like being home. Really enjoyed my time here with "my little Indonesian family". And the food tasted insanely good. Not joking if I say it's one of the best dinners I had during my time in Bali. I also got all the recipes afterwards so I can cook the dishes back home. Highly recommend to book a class or come here for lunch or dinner if you're in...
