I recently visited DECAFE Resto, Pastry & Bakery in Balikpapan and had a really satisfying meal. I started with their sop buntut sapi (oxtail soup), which was fantastic. The broth was rich and flavorful, with a nice balance of spices that made every sip comforting. The oxtail meat was tender and juicy, falling off the bone easily, just perfect for soup lovers.

Next, I tried their bubur ikan (fish porridge). It was smooth and creamy, with delicate fish flakes mixed in. The flavors were mild but comforting, making it a great choice if you want something lighter or soothing.

The highlight for me was the fried mantau with sapi lada hitam — fried mantau buns paired with black pepper beef. The mantau were crispy on the outside but soft inside, and the beef was cooked well with a flavorful, slightly spicy black pepper sauce that gave it a nice kick without being overpowering. It was a perfect combo that kept me coming back for more.

I have a pretty high expectation for this place. Since its renovation it has become one of the most crowded place in town. It is indeed has a very nice ambience, one of the best restaurant in Balikpapan.

Thought there's 'cafe' in its name, it is more of a restaurant. People came here to eat not to work so i dont think it is a suitable place for you to stay long and bring your laptop. But they do have a charging port in most of their seats.

Their menu selection is very good. Japanese, western and local foods are all available. They also have a bakery which has ready stock cakes, pastry and other desserts.

Though their food was not as I expected. Ordered the most basic menu which is nasi goreng and it is way too salty. Their cheesecake lacks the cheesy taste. Their pisang tart and pastel was ok, not recommended tho. Again pastel was too salty.
