The 18th Restaurant and Lounge — Restaurant in Bandung City

My fiancé stayed in The Trans Luxury Hotel for a week to visit my family in Bandung last December. So everytime we got the chance we had some time to chill in the 18th floor restaurant.

We went to the 18th Floor Luxury Dining to have a drink and dinner. The food and drink were really great and even outstanding for taste. However, I have to say the 18th Floor Restaurant has a very poor service. We were there one evening to get something to drink. And none of the staffs took our order until 15 mins later. It’s very hard to get their attention (or maybe The Restaurant is understaffed?) There were not too many people in the restaurant but it took about 45 mins to have our drink on the table and by the time we had our drink we wanted to leave already. We’ve been to many bars and restaurants and we know it doesn’t take about 45 mins to make something like Pina Colada or Cosmopolitan.

The next day my sister, my fiancé and I went there again to have dinner. And at 6.30pm, they were not prepared for any guests to have dinner I suppose? The table was empty with no table cloth nor there were dining equipments (i have no problems with this but should be mentioned) And again. It took forever for them to take our orders! Very hard to get the staffs attention. We should bring a huge flag perhaps to the restaurant so they will finally take our orders. Taste of Italy AYCE review: All of the italian dishes were moderate. The pizza n pasta were disappointing. The pasta was undercooked, and both carbonara and aglioolio was bland. The worst thing was the gnocchi. I think theres something wrong w the dough because the pasta was so lumpy and thick. This was the first time in an AYCE buffet where im baffled as to which food i should get again, because the only good italian cuisine was the eggplant lasagna. Makes you wonder when the best dishes in an event called taste of italy is the steak, roast duck, salmon.. and the baskin n robbins ice cream. Ive had much better italian food at another restaurant.

Theyre really stingy with the salmon. Most of the time of our dinner the salmon canape (one of the more decent choices of the whole menu) was empty. The sushi corner was worse: the sashimi was never prepared again. Then why even post a chef there?

That said, the place was nice, and the service excellent. One of my salmon canape looked grey, the chef came out and explained that its due to the seasoning when it was marinated and the anatomic region of the cut (im no salmon expert so okay). Then they replaced it with a new serving (that being the only time they prepare another batch of salmon i think). Steak order was wrong in terms of doneness, but we reordered, and the next batch was okay.

All in all, imo its disappointing for a 5 star hotel buffet. Not...

The good: -- Ribs over blacknut was VERY good! -- Love the chimicurri sauce -- I ordered the meat platter, the sausages and lamb cutlet was good. Really enjoyed them. -- The complimentary soft bread was good!

The bad: -- Ordered the signature tomahawk. While this is quite a big portion and looks impressive. The quality of the meat does not justify the price. I specifically asked for juicy tender meat. But what came out just wasn't worth the Rp2.235jt I paid for it. And a huge chunk, if not most, of it was intermuscular fat (the type you usually cut out and not eat). -- The cheapest drinks here are around Rp80.000 (yes the mineral water is 88.000 with tax at 380ml). This brings a very unpleasant dining experience, as I try to be very sparing with my water consumption, while eating a mostly carnivorous dinner. -- The meat platter's bbq chicken wings was soggy and the flavor was meh... -- the burger's meat has a strange smelly taste (like lamb), I thought it was dry aged. But the kitchen told me it is because the meat was hanger steak meat and hanger steak can smell. Strange because I have eaten hanger steak before on more than 5 occasions from 3 different restaurants and they don't smell. -- Meat platter's sweet potato fries was not very good either -- And...
