Tucked away at Wates Road No. 33, Soto Kadipiro Asli is truly a Javanese culinary treasure. From the moment I stepped in, the inviting aroma of simmering broth and spices set the perfect tone for what turned out to be a soulful, satisfying meal.
🍲 Soto: Their signature soto is a masterpiece — deep, savory broth with just the right hint of garlic and lemongrass, filled with tender chunks of chicken, silky rice vermicelli, and crisp bean sprouts. The fresh lime and green chilies on the side let you customize the flavor to your liking.
✨ Ambiance: The setting is humble and down-to-earth—just like traditional street-side eateries in Java. Simple wooden tables, bright batik wall hangings, and friendly staff who make you feel like family.
👩🍳 Service & Warmth: Service here is genuine and personal. The owner greeted me with a warm joke and offered helpful tips: “Add a drop of lime at the end for brightness.” That kind of touch makes all the difference.
💰 Value: A hearty, satisfying bowl of soto paired with a cold iced tea came in at a very reasonable price—great value considering the authenticity and generous portion.
👍 Overall: Soto Kadipiro Asli captures the true spirit of Javanese culinary tradition—flavorful, heartfelt, and unpretentious. Whether you’re a longtime fan of soto or discovering it for the first time, this alleyway gem at Wates Road is worth a visit. I’ll be coming back — it’s already on my list for comfort meals when I miss home. Highly...
Read moreIn Javanese I would say that : Soto Kadipiro, rasa ora sepiro rego ora kiro2. I found the soto was quite bland, you could only find some piece of chicken meat inside (despite it supposedly be called soto ayam) thus I had to add extras like chicken thigh and tofu. I was so surprised seeing the price, it was unbelievably expensive for a bowl of soto mixed with rice, 1 tofu, 1 chicken thigh, 1 bag of mushroom crisps, and 2 hot tea. I paid 70k for all of those. I definitely don't recommend this place despite the legendary status. In addition, some of the staffs were not so friendly. I was sitting near a couple who left around 5 minutes after I sat down and I politely asked the staff to remove the dirty dishes. However no one really cares. I was quite astonished with the level of rudeness they showed. Soto should be an enjoyable meal that can be bought by everyone and paying 70k for all of those is definitely out of the question. I will not come back again in the future. I won't waste my money and time just to eat in a place which is not...
