Booked 3 rooms for 7 of us in early May. I would not recommend this hotel. We expected more given it's under the Ascott group. Although the grounds were beautifully landscaped, the actual facilities were poorly maintained.
Rooms We booked 1 garden view room and 2 seaview rooms. Very basic and they were not clean. Garden room: There was mould in the shower area. Headboard was broken in some areas and flooring had holes in it. Main door couldn't shut properly and latch was broken. Also the layout is weird as the door opens into the balcony which has another sliding door. So you can't hear when someone knocks on the door and there's no doorbell. Seaview rooms: both rooms had issues with drainage in the shower. Flooring was not done correctly so the water tends to pool.
Food Only 2 restaurants on site. Main restaurant was also the breakfast hall. Variety was quite limited and food quality was not good. Many flies around the food. It was warm in the area and there were insufficient fans to cool the area. Tables were dirty and we had to ask staff to clean them. Staff also didn't take initiative to switch on the fans / move portable fans to make sure guests were comfortable. Rocksalt bar was the pool side restaurant. We got there well after 12pm and there were few other guests. Tried to order pizza and pasta but was told we had to wait an hour as the chef wasn't in yet. Ordered the sandwich and then was told it wasn't available either. Ordered grilled items with side of fries and was then told that they ran out of fries. The Duck was the specialty and it was dry and tough. Seafood Barelang is a restaurant next door with the same owner as the hotel. The premises were dirty and there were a lot of flies. Food was average.
Service Staff were poorly trained. Slow to respond to housekeeping requests like extra towels and pillows. Needed dishwashing liquid to wash baby bottle and they initially said they didn't have it. Took me 3 tries and going to the reception to beg them for just a small amount of detergent. Breakfast staff do a dance in the middle of breakfast service which was actually pretty annoying as the music was loud and it made it awkward for guests to get food during that time. Wish they would spend more time on service and food quality vs dancing.
Facilities We went for mini golf and were buffet for mosquitoes. Gym was supposed to be open at 6am. Went at 7am and it was still locked. Was about to leave when someone finally arrived. It was dirty and the dumbbells etc were smelly. Flooring was uneven and popping up in some places making it unsafe. Some lights were not working. Kids club was also dirty - the beanbags looked like they hadn't ever been washed. Ball pit also looked grimy. Spa was closed and there was nowhere close by for a massage so we didn't even get a massage in the end. We wanted to take the kids for the ATV ride but when we saw how dirty the protective guards and helmets were, we quickly changed our mind. They don't look like they've ever been washed. All over the resort you can see signs of wear and tear such as broken tiles.
Overall a disappointing experience. I hope the Ascott group and the owners will invest in the upkeep of the property and service quality as it does have the bones of a...
Read moreThis hotel has nice pools but poor food quality and bad service receptionists. A pity indeed.
Paid for 4 people to a sea view room for 2 nights. Found 2 pillows and 2 bolsters in room. Requested 2 more pillows as we have 4 pax but reception say need to pay and we wanted to pay for additional blanket as there is no way we can share 1 blanket with 4 people. Rejected and give us a 70cm baby blanket. We borrow bedsheet as blanket. Sad way for vacation.
Reached 8.30am at restaurant paid for additional breakfast. Egg station waited 15 mins, not enough eggs for scramble eggs and in the end the scramble eggs were burnt so i just take 2 sunny side ups and go (better than no food). Chicken soto soup and lontong soup so diluted with water.
Soggy toast bread and yellow waffles. not enough milk for cereal. Wanted to try indo mee at noodle station, boiled the noodles forgot to add msg to my water noodles. queue again for another bowl and the noodles were not cooked and hard. ok our family ate crossiant for breakfast. Plain porridge is the only hot food we ate.
Requested hot water to make milk for child. told to pay 25k rupiah. yes we paid. Children needs milk. Every room only entitled to 2 bottles water else need to pay additional bottle of water. So we buy bottled water from outside.
Spa reception staff rude Ms Ella? Ignore me when i was late for my massage as my child is sick. Arrange another slots for us and a nightmare.
Massage therapist demanded we pay tips so we paid 50000 rupiah. They say not enough and want us to pay 100000 rupiah tips. Judy and her friend massage us for 90 mins. Ok we paid 100k rupiah to 2 massues then they let us off. Its not a lot of money also but first time they demanded us to pay tips.
We lost something in room when the housekeeping was cleaning room. Requested for receptionist Daffa to check with housekeeping to find our lost item. Daffa straight rejected said nothing is found. After one hour requesting nearly involving Police, they found our item in the linen rooms. Else we would have lost the item during housekeeping.
BBQ Dinner was normal with limited food. Only 1 seafood restaurant belongs to hotel 5 mins away. Crabs all small around 300 - 400g. Prawns are fresh alive. Thats all. No clams.
Scary experience at the hotel till check out. Child is sick and we wanted to extend late check out so that we can order some food at pool restaurant before we go ferry. Mutia who claim to be front office manager and Daffa rejected our request and wanted us to pay 200k rupiah for an hour late check out. Mutia understand our child is sick but hotel policy says that late check out need to pay.
We are so glad that we have left the hotel where everything needs to pay for basic necessities. We ate at mega mall and board our ferry home. We still prefer our vacation in Bintan, truly vacation and kids friendly. We are fine to pay for...
Read moreWe chose Harris Barelang bcs we read good reviews and saw theres so many activities to do. I have 2 young kids so we were looking for a stay that is kids friendly. However, we didn't realise we were in for much disappointment.
Check in was smooth. However, lobby area was hot. Albeit it was outdoors, so just depending on fans, the fans were not even switched on. It was so hot and humid, your staff were perspiring too.
Amenities: We were looking forward to the kids pool, water area and the kids playroom. When we arrived, the water area had some upgrading works so it wasnt working at all. The kids playroom was poorly maintained as well.
We read there was supposed to have a snack bar near the kids pool but it was closed.
Breakfast area was big and had a lot of space. Food was okay. However again, i didn't mind that it's made outdoors but please, your fans were not switched on!
Room: We booked the garden view room. Not going to complain much about location. For the price we paid, we're ok. HOWEVER, the aircon in our room took eternity to cool the room. It was a good 5 hours till we could feel the aircon. On the 2nd day, we came back to the hotel really late at night. My kids were already asleep otw back to the hotel. However they woke up bcs it was rlly hot and I was desperately trying to put them back to sleep while sweating. Maintenance couldn't do much at that point so I requested for a standing fan. Your staff had offered a new room but it was already midnight and we were already so exhausted to pack our stuff to transfer while carrying 2 babies. We ended up sleeping in a hot room with just 1 standing fan for a family of 4.
Service: Again, so disappointed w service. Requested for a couple more mineral water but staff said only 2 complimentary bottles/day. Fine. My husband decided to head out to run some short errands. We were told we're not able to get a grab from the hotel lobby. We understand the exclusivity, but paying so much for your taxi service was not worth the short trip out. We also tried to request for a buggy service to the lobby (we had a lot of heavy things to carry beside the 2 babies) but was told buggy service is only for check in and check out time. However, on the 2nd day when we came back to the hotel really late, you offered us the buggy service with no qns asked. So where is the consistency?
I'm generally easy to please and I don't usually sweat over the small stuff (like the poor maintenance and cleaniness) but our stay was a huge disappointment. We came to celebrate our anniversary w our kids but the trip ended up with so much frustration.
P/s: writing this in a hot room. 3 hours passed and it's...
