Sunday, 30th May Visit Lunch reservation for 3 person honest opinion: one of the finest yet affordable dine in restaurants in Yogyakarta. 4 star and above review can tell us variety of outstanding dish. Reservations are received by call for faster response. Unfortunately servers were being much less informative than the last time i come here with friends of same age. Menu book came without image, so it left to our imagination by little description it had. Server explanation are less than informative, only gave short comment of what is the literal meaning of several ingredients, without further explanation what it had to do with the dishes. At least in Joll* (other dine in restaurants) server gave deeper interpretation of the dish so we can picture it in mind of what we order. Here, it's almost the server themselves never eaten any of the dish, so we had to order in blind, leaving it on luck. unlucky-ly Grandpa has several dietary restriction and server seems not trying to understand his disabilities. We ask for little to no sugar beverage, ordered a Secang but barista informed that it came in a pre-mix therefore the sugar cannot be separated. We understand, then we re-ordered for Butterfly Pea Tea. It does have no sugar in it... but it came scalding hot in a french press and a tall glass. Grandpa clumsily almost tipped it over, so i had to save the day, pouring it out from french press. I hope it does not overbrewed, given no explanations how long it should take to steep. Main course came in as pan seared salmon for grandpa, soft-shelled crab bisque for myself, and 48 hour smoked top blade for dad. Dad's dish has no problem, it's quite tasty, even. Its meat melts while juicy fat seeps out when i took a bite out of it. Problem in mine's and grandpa's though. When a description as "Prawn Bisque, Pickled", i though it came as pickled condiment. Yes, the server did say literally the same as the description in the menu itself. But, no it means the prawn itself is pickled then served along different prawn bisque. The crispy is okay, while the pickled prawn came as a shock. It's too sour it stings in mouth, also harder to chew, while the sauce themselves made it more sharp than i thought a dish should be. I had to finish it though, and add it onto personal not-to-order list. Grandpa's dish were pan seared salmon. Protein came out in tender bright coloured fish meat, it is thoroughly cooked. Unfortunately we did ordered mashed potatoes (because it's for grandpa, his jaw has less strength than us younger person). Yet it came with the harder to chew, roasted potato (hassleback). Without informing us that it cannot be replaced. While mine's soft shelled crab came with mashed potatoes. It's almost like a joke, do we have to switch it between ourselves?

I have visited Jogja for many times and always go to the same place for western asian fusion fine dining kinda meals (Mediterania by Kamil), so this time, I wanted to visit a different one. Pick Mil's Kitchen, since a certain blogger rave it and the review is like wow I must visit this place. Make a reservation through whatsapp and they have dining hours, so not like all day available. Do check first before visitng and make reservation. First of all, interior are beautiful, clean enough distant from one table to another, not like my all time favorite packed tight. Enough privacy from one to another. Service is excellent, although at some times they kinda hard to call. Food came out slow though around 20-30minutes, IDK why, back then it wasn't that full house, although they had this groupies dining at a private area, but seriously...still slow. We ordered the wagyu cheek bone marrow (IDR 158k), this is a beautifully useless dish, decorated with small pebbles which cause me to have difficulty savoring it. Portion small, wagyu cheek are soft and tender cook nicely done, the bone marrow serves as a sauce I think, and they said there is a coffee miso, sadly couldn't taste the coffee only salty. All I could taste is sweet salty like kecap manis. Excited with the complexity of the taste ( the description fools me) , but kinda disappointed. Wagyu striploin meltique ( IDR 210k), for a meltique, it is very expensive, and texture is well as expected of meltique, nothing special, sauce is okay, fries typical fries, MCD has better fries. Kinda surprise this restaurant serves meltique proudly instead of typical steak. Maybe to avoid mistakes in cooking it, since not much can go wrong with a meltique. My drink is obviously not recommended, when you want to clean your palate after meal, but this one ads more texture in your mouth that you have to rinse it with water. I think it is kunyit segar. Definitely, don't order Kunyit or jamu as your drink during meals, no matter how the resto recc it. By far, my most favorite is the dessert, Durian Creme Caramel (IDR 58k), panacotta durian texture so smooth, all the elements on top of the plate compelement each other well. The durian taste is strong which for me whom loves durian like it. If I had to come back, I will be only ordering this. Overall, my experience here is nice thank God for the dessert which wash away all the disappointment from the appetizer and main. Maybe I got the wrong order, should've order something else? But I wouldn't come back unless someone paying me for it considering the price for Jogja's average.

This was my first visit to this much-hyped eatery. Unfortunately, dinner at Mil's Kitchen did not live up to my expectation. The first dish to be served was salmon sashimi, priced at Rp.65k for five pieces. While the sashimi tasted better than other sushi joints in Jogja, it would not be too difficult to surpass them, as anyone with functioning taste buds would agree. The main dish that my partner and I had were nasi goreng kambing pete (Rp.85k) and Mil’s rijstafel [sic] (Rp. 78k). Living in Indonesia, one becomes somewhat accustomed to finding strands of hair in the food when eating out. But when one encounters a strand of fried hair in a nasi goreng that is priced at Rp. 85k, it is enough to ruin the dining experience (I didn’t bother mentioning it to the staff—the experience was already ruined, and no amount of discount would restore it). The taste of the items that came with the rijsttafel was not bad, but it was nothing extraordinary either. While I felt that the price was justified, I also felt that the name was something of a misnomer. Why call it a rijsttafel when it is served like regular nasi campur? Apart from the food itself, I note that the restaurant requires reservation. Upon arrival, my partner and I were directed to be seated at a table next to a large table where a group of customers were seated. Given that the none of the 2-person tables in the restaurant were occupied when we arrived, and remained unoccupied until we finished dining, seating us next to a group came across as defeating the restaurant’s emphasis on following health protocols during the pandemic. Of course, I asked to be seated in a table that is further away from the group, but would it not be more than reasonable to direct us to a table that’s sufficiently distant from other customers from the beginning? Also, the 2-person table felt a bit too small with the standard setup for two: two main plates, a side dish, and two drinks. It is disheartening that my first experience at a restaurant that is being hyped as one of the best new eateries in Jogja turned out to be less than stellar. By Jogja standards, the price of items at Mil’s Kitchen is quite high. However, there are rough edges at this restaurant, which inclines me to feel that for a comparable price, there are other venues in Jogja that offer overall better dining experience.
