During our stay in Flores, we tried the martabak telor (savory thin crust with egg, onion and smoked beef filling) and the martabak manis (two sweet thick pancakes with chocolate, cheese and condense milk in the middle - in short, it is like pancakes sandwiches).
We came from Norway and these two are our family favorites every time we visit Indonesia. Having tried so many of these from different restaurants, we can tell the difference.
This martabak telor (savory) filling was generous with quality ingredients and good flavor. Yummy smoked beef. Crispy thin crust as it should be. It is quite filling too. The martabak manis(sweet) was especially the children’s favorite. The pancakes was made with a good quality butter and the chocolate and cheese filling too. Bare in mind, although butter and cheese is common in Europe, they are quite expensive in Indonesia. So you can tell if the restaurant made martabak manis with a good quality ingredients or not.
