Chief Coffee - Kemang — Restaurant in Jakarta

My wife and I had read the generally positive reviews about Chief and decided to give it a try. Unfortunately our own experience was quite poor. It started with the seemingly arbitrary rules around which types of coffee's are allowed in which mugs sizes. For example, you can not order a large cappuccino, as the large mugs are reserved for flat whites... This seemed strange, but we ordered our coffees as per their rules. The coffee's were well made and were very enjoyable, albeit not in the sizes we wanted. We then proceeded to order our breakfast, where the arbitrary rules continued. We were told that "eggs any style" doesn't include poached eggs and in order to have poached eggs, we must order/pay for Eggs Benedict, regardless of what we actually wanted. At this point we paid for our coffees and left. Being spoiled for choice in Kemang, it was only a 2 min walk to the next cafe, who was happy to cook eggs any way we wanted. Chief on the other hand missed out on 3 meals and a 2nd round...

Unexpectedly, this place is great. Really have no idea where to go after a meeting at Kemang Village, my wife open google map and start looking for coffee place and this Chief Coffee came up. After seeing the review, we finally decide to go.

We ordered the sambal matah fried rice, ice cappuccino and something salted (sorry, forgot the name... hahaha). And all of it turn out really really good. The fried rice is very yummy, not too spicy for me. The ice cappuccino also great, the coffee and milk blend really well, no burnt after taste. And have no idea why, the salted drink also good. I'm not a fan of salted drink, but this one i had to admit that it's good. ^^

My wife bought the bottled ice latte, and she said that it's awesome. Too bad i didn't have the chance to taste it myself, she drink it all. I will surely...

We went there on a Sunday morning based on their nice breakfast menu. The door was open and we can see someone in kitchen, but, no greeting. We sat there 15 minutes and a lady showed up, apparently late. No effort from kitchen to cover for her or say anything. After she get settled she took our drink and food order. She went to the kitchen and a man started yelling. She came out to us and said no breakfast available come back for lunch. Too bad they are such idiots it looks like a nice place. We went to Monopoli Hotel for great Sunday breakfast. ...
