Love the Soto. Love the egg satay. Love the toko next door selling snacks.
Soto Kudus is a type of 'soto bening' (clear soup) mainly consist of shreded chicken, toge (bean sprout), bihun (vermicelly/glass noodle), chopped parsley, fried garlic. We eat them with nasi - separate nasi in a plate, or campur - nasi in the soto bowl. The bowl is small - that is one of its uniqueness. And we can add kecap manis (sweet soy sauce) - they m have home-made version that is unique in taste, lime, and of course chilly.
There are some traditional sides offered to accompany the soto: sate telor (quill eggs), paru goreng (fried cow lung), sate kerang (mussels), perkedel (mash potato fritter), tempe bacem (sweet tempe broiled in coconut water and spices and then fried), tahu bacem (bacem tofu), emping (chips made from smashed and fried 'gnetum gnemon') and other type of kerupuk (fried cracker).
Indonesia has hundreds of soto variations, mainly 'bening' or clear and those with coconut milk or other - heavier soup. This one is my favorite. Price-wise it is still quite affordable for Jakarta standard.
And just next door, they have adjoining toko that sells oleh-oleh (snacks and foods) from Java area....

The good thing is that they accept payment by debit cards,...
