Summary: false advertising.
There are many Okinawa Sushi locations throughout Jakarta. I have not been to any of them, yet.
I decided to try one, and I chose this location, even though it is VERY FAR from where I am staying in SOUTH JAKARTA, because they are advertising on Instagram a special promotion until the end of the month for 50% off.
The advertising very clearly states that your meal is 50% off before 5 PM and 25% after 5 PM.
Firstly, I was coming from quite far away (at least 45 minutes travel time). Secondly, the Grab application has the wrong location listed for Okinawa Sushi PIK (Sushi Masa is now in their old location), so after having to figure out what went wrong, it took me more like 1 hour to arrive.
Still, I arrived to the front desk of the restaurant at 4:26 PM and thought I had plenty of time, but instead I was informed that it was too late to get 50% off and I could only get 25% off, EVEN THOUGH THE ADVERITISING VERY CLEARLY SAYS BEFORE 5 PM.
I asked to speak to a manager and he said they had to actually settle the bill before 4:30 PM (why not 5 PM as advertised?) and by the time I finished arguing, in shock, it was already past 4:30 PM. Another customer who was already eating overheard my complaints, and she explained that she had the same experience here before, having arrived after 4:30 PM and being refused the promotion (she said she had come before 4 PM to get the promotion this time - I assume she lives nearby and could easily try again another day and so was not as hugely inconvenienced as I was).
Despite still being able to avail of the 25% off promotion, I instead chose not to give my money to a business that engages in deceitful, misleading, or - if I am going to give the benefit of the doubt - careless and incompetent marketing practices. I would have gone to Sushi Masa, but they are closed between 2:30 PM and 5:30 PM, so I chose Kintaro Sushi which is also nearby in PIK and quite good.
I'd rather spend MORE money at a place that doesn't lie to its potential customers than take 25% off from a company that engages in bait and switch marketing tactics.
Attached is a picture of the advertisement on their official Instagram showing 5 PM as the cutoff time, both in the picture and in the text below the picture.
I can understand if the restaurant required that the bill be settled and paid BEFORE 5 PM. If someone arrived at 4:45 PM, they would need to rush and order and pay before the 5 PM cutoff. That makes perfect sense and is a reasonable interpretation of a 5 PM cutoff. But they said the cutoff was 4:30 PM. How does anyone logically get to 4:30 PM from 5 PM? Furthermore, if you want 4:30 PM to be your cutoff, then that's fine, but THEN PUT 4:30 PM on your advertising!!
The location is nice enough and near the water. Nothing amazing but pleasant enough. The restaurant seems to have nice decor and even an outdoor seating area. I didn't actually try the food, for obvious reasons, so I'm marking it 3 stars as "I don't know."
I will now be avoiding trying Okinawa Sushi at ANY of their many locations because they WASTED my time. I would not have chosen to travel 45 minutes for Sushi if they had been honest about their cutoff time. There are plenty of other good sushi places near...
Read moreWe've been to several Okinawa Sushi outlet before, but this one deserves a review so the others don't have to experience what we have.
They have 2 area: indoor & outdoor. This restaurant is not very crowded so it is suitable for those who want to have a rest in the very crowded Aloha.
Now about the services: I don't know if this is a new branch or not, but the service was very inconsistent!
Came for an early dinner with the family for my mom's birthday with a total of 8 people. Early services were good, we were served by a waiter in black outfit. Offered to sit indoor or outdoor & he prepared exactly the way we wanted: 1 table indoor & 1 table outdoor (which later we switched to 2 outdoors). The poor services came when we were served by another waiter with not-so-good attitude, not sincere & he even chewed something when talking with us! Always rushing to go from the table to go back in the restaurant.
Also I think the management must consider about special treatment when a customer is having their birthday. It doesn't have to be something expensive or hassle to prepare, just a small piece of cake or sushi would be a very good gesture, like they do in other sushi restaurants. Remember: this is a family restaurant & many of your customers come to celebrate there.
We asked if they serve something for birthday & answered "no, we don't." directly without even checking with the Store Manager. When I asked again, he said "I will check" but never got back.
My wife finally asked to prepare a pudding served on a plate with a birthday greeting words (AND OF COURSE WE PAID FOR IT). And guess what? They wrote the words using mayonnaise! Can you imagine serving a Hokkaido Milk Pudding with mayo???!! Even the words were wrong, when they actually had written the requested words down.
We had no complaints regarding the food, even though the Salmon Head actually burnt but we didn't express it to the cook. We were too surprised by the poor services.
This is really the worst Okinawa Sushi we've ever been & most probably will never...
Read moreI came here for dinner in March 2024 with my Family to celebrate my Dad’s birthday and it was an amazing experience. I was happy with the staff treatment as they are professional, understanding and friendly. Moreover the entrance of the restaurant is wheelchair accessible and friendly. For appetizer we got Edamame which is a normal starter to begin our course but what made us satisfied was the Midori Salad which is a salad consisted of Salmon bites, cherry tomatoes, a Caesar salad with their own peanut sesame sauce which total cost about Rp. 80,000 (about $5) For our main course The waitress Anissa is so recommended the Birthday Sushi in their secret menu and it was simply delicious. The Birthday Sushi was an all salmon sushi and sashimi platter served in all and different ways for the price of Rp 850,000 (about $55). We also got free dessert for a yelp or google review too per person and in my books as a google reviewer it is a good deals. Overall had a pleasant and fun time dining here with my family and in total it cost about with food, drinks and dessert about Rp 260,000 for each person ($17). Will definitely dine...
