Ayam Betutu Khas Gilimanuk — Restaurant in Kuta

Ayam betutu is a famous local food in Bali. It is a boiled chicken with various herbs and spices. The taste of tumeric was quite dominant. Beware with the level of spiciness. Mine was level 1 (up to level 3) and it was hot !! There were also fried and grilled ayam betutu in the menu. I ordered a package of a quarter chicken. It came with a plate of rice, a small plate that consisted of fried peanuts, kangkung plecing (some veggies with chillies) and sambal matah (mixed chillies with shallots). I also ordered sate lilit (skewered of minced chicken) and it was quite hot and spicy too. In overall, the food was delicious, if you fond of hot and spicy food. With this kind of food you tend to eat with a lot of rice. The warung style restaurant was packed during lunch hour. There was no staff to find you a table because they were all busy with the orders, so you need to look for a table yourself. I finally returned to Ayam Betutu Khas Gilimanuk after my last visit in 2014—and it was just as satisfying as I remembered. The ayam betutu was bursting with flavor: rich in spices, perfectly cooked, and still carrying that signature Balinese heat. The meat was tender and infused with the bold, aromatic bumbu that makes this dish so special.

The restaurant remains clean, organized, and welcoming. Service was fast, and the food arrived fresh and hot. I ordered the ayam betutu with plecing kangkung and sambal matah—classic sides that elevated the meal and brought back nostalgic memories of my first visit.
