Konro Karebosi is one of Makassar's most popular culinary delights, especially among meat lovers and fans of soupy dishes. Konro is essentially beef ribs cooked in a dark, spicy broth. However, Konro Karebosi is famous for offering two variations: konro kuah (classic) and konro bakar, which is beef ribs that are grilled after being simmered until tender in spices. The name “Karebosi” refers to the legendary eatery in the Karebosi Square area of Makassar, which has been in operation since 1968 and has become an icon of this dish.
Konro Bakar with peanut sauce at Konro Karebosi Restaurant is one of Makassar's most beloved signature dishes. This dish features large pieces of beef ribs grilled to perfection, then drizzled with a rich peanut sauce. The meat is tender and easily separates from the bone, creating a harmonious blend of savory, sweet, and slightly spicy flavors that tantalize the taste buds.
In terms of presentation, Grilled Konro is typically served with white rice, a richly spiced konro broth, and accompaniments such as chili sauce, sweet soy sauce, and lime juice.
The main ingredients of konro broth are a blend of traditional Indonesian spices such as coriander, cumin, nutmeg, cinnamon, tamarind, and kluwek, which gives the broth its black color. Additional ingredients like shallots, garlic, galangal, and bay leaves enhance the flavor. Konro is rich in animal protein, fat, and iron from beef ribs.

Read moreHmm...food is good. Enough but it still did not meet my expectation. I was sometime try konro when in Jakarta and it tasted better than this (?). Maybe just not my kind of taste. Portion was big and suit with the price. I ordered grilled ribs, rice, and hot tea and charges around 160k for two portions. Fair enough I think. The grilled sauce is not much different with satay in my personal opinion. The ribs meat is not chewy, need a bit energy to slice it and I am questioning why the ribs is not served hot (?). The soup is also not as strong as I thought. Rice portions is normal. Additional sauce is really hot! Be carefull.
Seating area was plenty and they also has upper area with better air, but still a bit hot. Overall services is good but I don't think I will come again for the next.
Parking area is available but limited. Signboard of the restaurant help to find the right place and it easy to...
Read moreOne famous Makassar speciality....the bbqued meat, with some peanut sauce. It seems they slow cook the beef before bbq, and it produced a very tender meat, with smoky taste. The heavy gravy is made of peanuts, soya sauce and myriad of various spices. It's very good, and the reputation of this restaurant is at the top in Makassar, of similar specialty restaurants. The beef is served with rice, and with the bowl of soup in which it has slow cooked. It's not very expensive, 60jt per plate. The minus is it is a smoking restaurant. But I'm probably the only one who care in the whole Sulawesi. No matter what, it's a...
