FOOD: best in Lombok SERVICE: fast, clean, and everyone is very kind AESTHETIC: typical Indonesian hole in the wall
DETAILS: The most amazing Indonesian food I've ever had. I've been staying in Lombok for about a month travelling to Kuta, Senggigi, the Gilis, etc. and this is by far the best food in Lombok. Get the chicken and the veggies with coconut, sambal, and peanuts, and rice. so amazing. the chicken is charred and crispy but so moist inside with an amazing and intense flavour. The veggies are perfectly cooked with crunch left in them and a delicious mixture of spicy and sweet (from the fried coconut) flavours. Everything is amazing. Even the service! They bring you you're food in about 5 minutes even when they are busy with a full restaurant. Typical Indonesian style restaurant. Everything is clean but the layout and choice of furniture is not appealing. But again, typical hole in the wall. But clean and comfortable enough. Food is above and beyond which makes up for the aesthetics of the restaurant. It is on the side of the road and may take a bit of time to find on your own, but all locals know the restaurant.

Read moreReally wanted to come here for authentic Ayam taliwang. YouTuber Mark Wiens said this was the best grilled chicken he had, so I had very high expectations.
Was afraid of long queues but was surprised that there wasn’t any queue, perhaps because we came at around 6pm. I was in and out within 10 minutes. Do note you’ll have to pay Rp 2000 for parking.
Some of the staff can speak English, and easily understood what I need, and also made recommendations.
We had 2 regular and 2 non-spicy chickens with the kangkung plecing and rice to takeaway.
The spatchcocked chicken is about the size of my palm, so an adult can easily down 2 chickens. Despite its small size, the chickens were tasty and the open fire grilling imparted nice smoky taste.
It’s not for people who enjoy munching on large chunks of meat but this is a delicious meal in its own right. Both the missus and I were blown away by the grilled chickens and were left wanting for more.
Dining there looks like an authentic local experience and the smell of smoke and grill definitely whets your appetite.
Would recommend for foodies coming to Lombok for authentic...
Read moreA restaurant by a small road. The indoor dining space may acommodate up to 20 person, but they have an extension by the pedestrian lane to acommodate another 25-30 person. The menu ranges from chicken and fish, and a few side dishes (steamed local watercress with plecing sauce, grilled offal in skewer, grilled eggplant in spicy taliwang sauce, and steamed rice). Their signature dish is grilled chicken with spicy taliwang sauce (a whole chicken is quite small, enough for 1 person). This roadside restaurant is recommended for those who wants a taste of ayam taliwang (grilled chicken with spicy taliwang sauce), the signature dish of Mataram, in an affordable price (spent IDR520k for 10 people, with each having a plate of chicken, steamed watercress with spicy plecing sauce, crackers,...
