Restoran Kubang Hayuda is a culinary institution in Padang, renowned for its signature Martabak Mesir since 1971. The dish lives up to its reputation—crispy outside, richly spiced filling inside, offering a well-balanced flavor that feels both comforting and memorable. For anyone returning home or visiting the city, stopping by Hayuda almost feels like a cultural obligation.
Aside from its iconic martabak, the restaurant also serves roti cane, fried rice, fried noodles, and mie rebus. Among these, the fried rice and fried noodles stand out with solid execution—well-seasoned, nicely portioned, and satisfying for a late lunch or dinner. On the other hand, the mie rebus and satay were underwhelming during our visit, with the latter suffering from dry meat and underseasoned sauce.
Hayuda opens from 2 PM until midnight, making it a popular destination for late-night dining. Be warned, though—during peak holiday seasons, long queues are expected, and some menu items may not be available, especially earlier in the day. Still, for many, the experience is worth the wait.
Interestingly, the Hayuda brand has expanded beyond Padang, with branches in cities like Jakarta, yet locals often claim that nothing beats the original. Despite some inconsistencies, the overall appeal of Kubang Hayuda lies in its nostalgic value, the dependable martabak, and the casual but lively atmosphere that makes it a go-to for both locals...
Read moreI went to Restoran Kubang Hayuda with my friends and we were amazed by the martabak. It was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, with generous amount of meat and spices. We ordered the martabak telur bebek spesial, which was made with duck eggs and had a sweet and sour sauce. It was so satisfying and filling.
We also tried the sate padang and the mie goreng, which were also very tasty. The sate padang was tender and had a rich peanut sauce, while the mie goreng was similar to Aceh fried noodles, but with a lighter flavor. The portions were big and the prices were reasonable.
The service was fast and friendly, and the place was clean and cozy. We enjoyed the view of the city from the windows, and the atmosphere was lively and warm. We had a great time at Restoran Kubang Hayuda and we highly recommend it to anyone who loves Padang food or wants to try...

The portion is enough for sharing but not me, haha. Talua tea is made from tea, egg (yes egg!), condensed milk & a hint of lime. The taste is so light yet creamy & refreshing. If you prefer sweet martabak, you can opt for Martabak Bandung with so many topping based on your choices.
The price is fair. With 2 portion of martabak mesir & talua tea, we only spend around IDR...
