Saburo Ramen, Pekanbaru — Restaurant in Pekanbaru

Located at Jl. Tuanku Tambusai, beside royal asnof hotel. This is one of hidden gem in Pekanbaru. It's not easily to spot this place as their signboard not very big, in fact i found this place thru Instagram recommendation.

Upon reaching, you'll notice that this place lacked space to park, they even use their terrace as parking place for motorbikes (max fit 10 bikes). For carpark, it probably can only fit at most 5 car. In front of the closed slide door, there's small gallon for washing your hands, glad they do follow health protocol.

Entering the premise, got seats on counter place but it's only limited. The other tables is fit of 2, 4, and 6 pax. There's several wall poster painting that show off kyoto ramen illustrations and picture frame to decorate the place. Lighting is not bad, they use warm lighting which is good to enhance foodie experience.

After getting seated, the staff immediately greeted us and bring us the menu to order. I asked what's the difference of the ramens listed and what is his recommendation. Surprisingly the staff is knowledgeable to answer the qns. This is a great positive point for the restaurant, staff must know what they sell ☺️

Here's what we ordered;

ramen original saburo + topping chicken spicy IDR 33.000 - spicy level 1 the noodles is good, it's not just right chewy. Compelemented by the broth just like i tasted in every Japanese ramen chain store overseas. They use chili oil to make the ramen spicy and surprisingly it did the trick. It was yummy and it brings forth the hidden umami flavor 😍

With minced chicken topping, two slices of choy sum (sawi hijau), a sheet of seaweed, hard boiled egg, fish cakes, a little bit of bean spout and corn kernels, this ramen got almost what it takes for authentic ramen. The minced chicken melted upon eating, there's no disharmony in the dish itself.

Ramen original saburo + topping katsu IDR 38.000 - spicy level 3 - for 2 pax this one was more or less same like number one, but with more chili oil, i feel like just level 1 of spiciness was ok, but if you're up to challenge, you can maybe ask for more. After cooled down, it tasted almost like level 1 but then i guess it's bc of the hot broth that enhance the spiciness.

The katsu topping was put on different plate, i was hoping it's sizzling hot, but what came was cold katsu. The skin peeled off upon lifting, wasn't crispy as well as the oil smeared every where. It did cooked well but hopefully can improve.

Ramen tomyum + topping karaage IDR 37.000 - spicy level 1 when trying the broth, i can taste the authenticity of thai tom yum sour, spicy and umami flavor combined into one. Surprisingly it was great with the original ramen broth and doesn't taste overpowering. I suspected this won't be as good bcmost of tom yum broth in the city was diluted to suit indonesian palate.

I recommend this one to be at level 0 since the tom yum alrdy sour and spicy. Adding more will kill the flavor. The topping was karaage, served cold, oily, and not crispy 😔 was hoping for more kick to complement tom yum broth.

Iced hawaian tropis - IDR 18.000 it tasted like passion fruit syrup mixed with basil seeds (biji selasih)

Iced ocha - IDR 10.000

For a big bowl ramen like this and make me full, I'll definitely say yes to come again! I'm not a big eater tbh, but this one was just right and it did taste good.

I was disappointed with the egg, usually it's soft boiled and yolk got golden melting color marinated with sweetened soy sauce. What i got was normal white hard boiled egg. When i asked the staff, they said that's the only option. So i definitely recommend you...

Awalnya enak, tapi lama-lama terlalu asin. Kekentalan kuah, oke. Porsi pantas untuk harganya. Tekstur mi ga terlalu lembek atau keras. Topping cuma selembar nori, 2 iris Narutomaki, selembar sawi, dan Ajitsuke Tamago. Tingkat kematangan telur sebagai Ajitsuke Tamago hampir sangat baik. Datang tidak dihampiri oleh pramusaji. Saat mau memesan, pramusaji tidak responsif dan kurang ramah (soal ramah mungkin karena udah capek). Alat makan (sendok+sumpit) cuma disajikan di atas selembar tisu (saran: coba dikasih wadah atau piring persegi sebagai alas alat makan). Tidak ada tisu di meja makan. Kami disuruh pindah ke meja untuk berdua walaupun resto sepi. Ga cepat untuk hitungan tamu yang ga banyak (saat saya datang). Tapi tidak sangat lama juga. Ga ada condiment tambahan (cabe, bawang daun, kecap asin, dll). Cuma bisa minta saos cabe dan bubuk cabe. Harga oke. Cash, debit card, bank transfer. Area paling mending adalah dekat kasir. Semakin ke dalam, semakin panas (mungkin dekat area masak). Untuk motor sih cukup banyak, tapi mobil mungkin cuma...

Tempatnya lumayan luas. Kebersihannya agak kurang. Ada bangkai kecoa di bawah meja, mayat serangga dan helaian rambut di lantai (per tanggal 24/09/2021, semoga bisa ditingkatkan lagi kebersihannya).

Untuk range harga makanan : menengah, paling mahal 40 ribuan. Range harga minuman : standar, 10-20 ribuan. Paling murah air mineral 8k, ocha nya 10k dan no-refill.

Rasa : aku pesen ori spicy sama ori beef bulgogi, nothing special.

Level kepedasan : 0, 1, 3, 7 dst. Untuk level di atas 3, perlu nambah lagi 2k dari harga ramennya.

Porsi : lumayan besar.

Di sini ada tempat sholatnya, di bagian belakang. Tempatnya sendiri secara keseluruhan bagian belakangnya belum selesai di renov, jadi sedikit berantakan. Sedikit aja, ga banyak banyak...
